Hi I hope I'm in the right thread!
I'm in the market for a used loader backhoe. Something in the 45hp size (Kubota l45, JD110, Yan CBL40 etc). I'm mechanically inclined but generally stupid about tractors (not enough experience). So I'm hoping I can get some pointers about what to look for, good and bad when looking for a rig, as well as any brands I should be considering. I have a 10 acre property to maintain. Everything from stump removal to excavation for a foundation. It'll be a hard working machine. I'm also hoping to buy it at auction to get a good price. But again, any advice would sure be appreciated. THANKS!

Those are all good units for you lot size and intentions . Look at Tractor House Used Tractors For Sale at TractorHouse.com: John Deere Tractors, used farm tractors and farm equipment, tractors for sale, Case IH, New Holland, Agco, Kubota for pricing based on hours and condition.

You get what you pay for most of the time, and personally I would look for something in 3-700 hour range, maybe 2-3 years old. Or find a single owned / non comercial operated unit that is well kept but these will command a decent price. I would guess anywhere from mid 20s for a well used unit to high 30's for a newer one in good condition.

First though you probably should rent one for a weekend to get the "feel" for it and see if it meets your expectations.

Those brands listed are part if the Tractor house heading, the L45 and 110 are excellent units for your intents and purposes.

I would definitely consider a built in TLB. You lose a lot of dig depth and power without. A JD 110TLB would be nice but I would also consider like a Case 580K JD 310D Cat 416B area, little larger more powerful dedicated TLB but they will deliver more power if thats what you are looking for. If you plan to do more light work and the best overall I would look mainly at a 110TLB, I am looking for a used backhoe now too and not looking at the 110TLB just because they would cost me a pretty penny to much and I want something a little cheaper and they didn't make a dedicated compact any older so I'm looking a little larger than what I need but I already have a compact to do the small stuff anyway.

I am under the impression the OP is looking for a combination model capable of 3PH work as well as a backhoe, the larger machines won't meet this criteria.

That was my assessment as well...

However, there are some pretty good deals out there right now on the construction hoe models - JD310's, Case 580's and Cat's - with 2,000 to 3,000 hours in the high $20's to mid $30's.

That compares very favorably to the used, newer model L45's and JD110's that are selling for mid to upper $30's.

Guy could pick up a bigger construction TLB and a smaller, Ag tractor (30hp) 2WD, for just about the same money as 1, newer model Kubota or Deere TLB.
