Used BX1800?? Ground contact vs Suspended deck?

Looking for a dedicated mowing machine for my parents...Please see this post Another dedicated mower question . The same dealer we are demo-ing the G1800 just got a BX1800w/54" deck turned in. It has 510hr and is described as very clean. Asking $7,200. Opinions on price?

The problem is I haven't been able to determine whether a suspended deck will help solve the "problem" of getting stuck. It appears most all the newer lawn tractors and sub-compacts use a suspended deck. I've also seen some lawn tractors with bar tires on them. Maybe adding bar tires to the lawn tractor will help but high centering ground contact deck seems like it could still be a problem. The G1800 has a ground contact deck. I'm not sure spending $7-9000 for a lawn tractor makes sense when we can now get the BX with 4wd and 3pt hitch for around the same monies.

Can you tell I'm having trouble with this one?? Thanks...Chuck

I am not sure about the price. But if I were to be able to buy a BX for the around the same money as a dedicated mower I would buy the BX. If Mom and Dad ever wanted to use something like a tiller it would be nice to have the BX. And a lot easier on the back then using a hand tiller. And the 4WD is a big plus. I have already had to use my 4WD a couple of times. I would buy the 4x4 BX.

A suspended deck can only help as far as getting stuck goes, it should not hurt since it is floating most of the time.

A 4x4 anything is more than twice as good than a 2x4 same thing when it comes to NOT getting stuck. With the BX you will also have the differential lock, so it becomes a true 3 wheel drive if necessary. Where the 2 wheel drive with no diff. lock is only a 1-wheel drive when a rear tire starts to slip, and that one wheel is slipping...

Chuck, I think the BX might very well be the answer to your situation. I do think that you could get some movement on the price, I would like it better around $6750 or so.
