used chainsaw prices/saw worth fixing

i'm going to be a bit long winded

i was gifted a Echo CS-510 from a landscapers widow. 50cc saw 20" bar 3/8 chain. after cleaning it and looking it over i got it running. the chain was loose and i couldn't get it to tighten. oh well deal with that later. set the brake and start it up. saw idles really high and chain brake won't hold the clutch from engaging. got the saw to idle where it should. chain brake works with motor off (granted i didn't pull that hard). took it all apart and cleaned it all found the clutch cover broken where the tensioner attaches. that solves that issue. still can't get the brake to work. NOW the question is what is this saw worth in the condition it is now? what if i bought a new clutch cover/chain brake for roughly $60? IS it worth selling? I will not keep it. this would be saw number 7 and i only really use 4 of them. i also think it has too long a bar.

I would junk it, can't be worth more than $125 in working order.

List it for sale with the problem. Someone may need the pieces or have the correct parts from another. As someone who has a bunch of saws you know how this works. It could be a fast 50.

I'd fix it up. Old Japan made saws will run forever. Then you can sell it for at least $60.00, but it would be worth more than that.

I always use an old saw that looks a bit rough as the truck saw. It's amazing how theifs will always look past an old saw that doesn't have stihl or husky on the side.

Poulan / Partner looks like they stole their design from the old echos. lol.

I see those old saws at garage sales and the auction all the time. If running, prices are well under $100. If not running you can't hardly give them away.

Fix it, then sell it. I just hate to see old tools die when someone else maybe could get some use out of it. My favorite saw is my trusty Homelite Super EZ AO. I think I bought it in the late 70s or early 80s.

Fixing it won't increase it's value any more than the value of the parts you need IMO. So it's a wash.. I do think spending $60 and getting it running, and selling it for $60 more than it's worth now would be an easier sell though.

If the saw was gifted to you and you have a little labor in it to get it running, anything above the price of the parts is profit. I am retired so my labor is normally gratis when doing something I enjoy. If this is something you do to earn money then your labor would or could be included.

Last year, I bought 4 chainsaws off ebay for $100. 3 electric and one gas. Cleaned them all up and they all work just fine. I didn't need them but I use them and I enjoyed tinkering with them.

Stick it on a shelf Terry, one day you might come across an old parts saw. Although not a commercial Husky, Dolmar or Stihl, Echo's are a very decent saw and comparable with the others "ranch" saws or better.
