I have a chance to buy a used Gravely:
Gravely 8 HP Walk Behind with 40" Mower, 30" Brush
Hogg, Snow Blower, and 48" Blade attachments. Electric Start. Runs
Great. $700.

I checked it out and it does run strong. The implements have a little rust on them.

Is this worth it?

I have been looking at the DR Trimmer/Mowers, but bought the JD 4510 first. There are areas on my place where I would like to cut trails that I do not need or want 6 foot wide trails. It would alo be a lot easier to mow the ditches with this equipment.

Sounds like a good deal. I would buy it for that.

If I didn't already have 3 of them, and my wife would kill me if I got another, I'd ask you where it was to see if it was close enough for me to get. $700 is a good price, they are very hard working walk behinds.

That sounds like a great deal to me. The price for that setup new would easily be over $6000. Even if this is an older model parts are readily available and they can also be bought over the internet at WWW.Gravelyparts.com here in WV. You can check out the year of manufacture on the Gravely web site if you have the serial number.

Solo,
Will a new sulky work with the older models?

You guys all confirmed what I was hearing locally, thanks,

Yes, a new sulky will work with an old machine. They use a ball hitch type setup, (a small ball I can't remember the diameter) and a sleeve that fits into the sulky itself. I priced a new sulky about 2 years ago and I believe it cost around $350, don't quote me on that but the kicker is that the ball hitch doesn't come included in that price. The ball itself cost me $25. I bought the sulky used for $75.
The part number for the ball is 12570.

Redman--Good price and good machine. New sulkies connect fine to old tractors, but old sulkies IMHO are definitely better if you can find one. Among other things, the old ones have metal seats which are contoured to keep you in the saddle and the new ones have "bench" seats that slide you off on a hill.

Thanks, not sure if I will get a sulky. I can use the exercise. If I see an old one I may pick it up for the wife.
