Hey ya'll,

I bought a new set of Howse 6' disks close to a year ago.........It is the greasable ones with 20-18" notched disks......I haven't used them much, but they are used, even if it they weren't but a week old........

Well, I am fixing to sell my 45 horse Mahindra for I no longer need that size of a tractor.........Thats the ONLY reason i'm selling it..........I am going to buy a smaller Yanmar tractor from more than likely a dealer on here and purchase a tiller with it..

Anyway, I bought the disks locally for $824.04 with tax........I was offered $600.00 for them this evening, without looking at them.........I know it would be worth it for the buyer, but IS IT WORTH IT FOR ME?

ALSO.......Roughly, what should my used 6' Bush Hog SBX720 box blade go for?........It is a little over a year and a half old..........All of the teeth are there, but one on the outside edge is a little bent, but not much. The inside rear cutting edge is somewhat "bent" in the middle and is noticable.........I gave $630.00 for it new.

Thanks,
Travis

Hard to put a price on used equipment this time of the year. It would command a better price, or at least more INTEREST in the springtime. This is afterall, the end of the season.

Used disc's like yours usually sell for $500 to $600 around here at the right auctions. Used 6' box blades sell $350 to $450 here. I'm currently trying to sell a 7' Woods box with little response to my adds. Just not the right time of the year.

Keep in mind, that someone buying something used needs incentive to do just that. Otherwise, they might as well buy new like you did. I would say that $200 is enough incentive for someone to consider used. If there was only a $100 difference, I would just opt for new. Think of it this way, you paid $224 to rent a disc harrow for a year ... not bad. The same goes for the box blade.

I posted on a diffrent thread.... ive got a dealer with a whole back lot full of used stuff (taken in on trade in with tractors etc) thinks most of it is plated in gold. like 3/4 the price of something brand new thats a rusting hulk of steel that has OBVIOUS wear and tear on it.

but he dosent want to deal on stuff he gave pennies on the dollar for so i say F it ill keep looking.

if its in good condtion, relitivly new, id say you could fetch 80-90% of what it cost new.

I have one of those too. Went to look at some used implements. 4' box blade missing a sacrificer and needed one entire side welded and he wanted $150. He also had a used post hole digger that had seen better days a couple of decades ago that he wanted $400 for. I said I can buy a brand new one for that!

When you are out looking for good quality used implements, there are never any to find :) I'd happily pay 70% or so for something used if it was in good condition and was what I wanted.

I have found that more often than not, I end up buying new after looking for used for a while. It takes time to find something used. If I find something good it is usually far away and takes time for me to drive over (couple hours each way sometimes) to just take a peek at it to see what condition it is in. Getting it over to my place would be a hassle as I have no truck.

More often than not it is not quite what I would buy new.

New is just such a breeze. I know that I am getting a good deal because I can check on prices. I know that I can get things delivered for a resonable fee because I deal with dealers that are close enough and so on...He this is mostly why I ended up with a new tractor.

I guess it is just being at the right place at the right time to buy or sell something used. I don't think you can expect much more than 70 to 75% even if what you are selling is in mint condition.. not from me anyway.

Your loosing over $200 on the purchase price, but it will be gone and a done deal. If you got $200 or more worth of work out of it, than I'd say you did well.

Do you want to hold on to if for a few bucks more? How much do you think you can get for it and how long will it take?

This is peak season for disks because of hunting season and food plots are starting to go in. It will probably move, but you might have to deal with a dozen or more idiots who are all trying to underbid you, have problems of one kind or another and will eat up your personal time in trying to sell it. No to mention you'd have to pay for an add someplace.

If it was me, I'd sell it and be done with it. You might get another $50 for it and maybe even $100 more, but that's probably pushing it. Why pay you $700 for it when you can buy it brand new for $800?

If hold out for $50 more, that will cost you money in your time and effort. Overall, it's not that much and surely not worth the effort.

Take the $600 and be glad you had an easy sell.

Well, I just sold my disks.....$600 cash........

I have got another feller coming to buy my box blade between tomorrow and Friday.......He said that when he comes, he's bringing the trailer..........I am going to sell my Bush Hog SBX 720 Box Blade for $475.00 to him....(I know him also).........It is somewhat close to 2 years old..........I gave $618.00 for it new with tax.........And i'll say that it was the WORST $618.00 i've ever spent........I didn't like that box blade since it was new.......(the teeth didn't go low enough)............I don't know how true it is, but he said that the new SBX 720 costs $800.00?...........If I knew that before I gave him my price, I probably would have asked around $575.00
