Used industrial backhoe pricing.

Hi all,

I was wondering what $25,000 will buy on the used industrial backhoe market as far as condition, hours, etc. Anyone follow that market?

Got mine at an auction. Was formerly owned by TVA. It's a JCB 1550-B (digs 15 1/2 feet). Paid about $13,000 as I recall? No more than $15,000 (been several years)

Machine had something like 1,800 hours on it. Fires right up, runs smoother than a watch.

Mechanically it'll get the job done. Asthetically, the machine is "fugly" if you know what I mean /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

When it comes to getting the work done, I can deal with fugly.

Since having it, I've redone bh bucket cylinder, dipperstick cylinder, new muffler, couple hoses, 2 front tires 1 rear tire (they were bad when machine obtained) and a new radiator.

Oh, and a new battery

I'm planning on rebuilding the bh valve box just because I don't like it when the hose drifts around (slightly) and was told that's the likely culpret.

Anyways, it's been a tinkerer machine but for the price I don't think I can complain too much.

OH, I spoke with Power Equpment (the origional dealer that sold it to TVA), they looked up serial number, seems back in around 1987, this was about a $75,000 machine

Obviously prices vary by area.

Here in East Texas, I bought a 1998 Ford 555E two wheel drive backhoe for $18,000 delivered. No tax. It had 2,000 hours on it, runs strong and fairly tight in the seals. I've rebuilt two cylinder, replaced one tire, the starter, muffler and exhaust pipe.

That was two years ago. I've seen similar tractors for about $17,000 now.

Pricing is very regional and depends on the options one desires.

4wd, extending dipper, cab, front attachments, etc.

$25k will buy quite a bit of machine. 3-4 years old with 1,800-2,500 hours well within the service life of the machine. This would have at least one of the above options. More options drives the price up.

Thanks all, for the replies. Actually, I'm thinking about selling my Case 480F and am trying to get an idea of what it is worth. Its an unusual situation so I'm going to start a separate thread on this forum about it. Hope to hear your comments.
