Tractor
mf 253
Last summer I got a used MF 253. It had some problems but seemed to be a good strong tractor that meets my needs. The local MF dealer ordered an owners manual. The first one was in French so re-ordered in English. I can read the English version but the drawings and schematics in the French look more like my tractor.

The data plate shows model 253, type 5485, serial number S24282, made in Great Britain. It was manufactured in 1991.Some of the bolts are metric others are standard. Can anyone tell me the story on this tractor? My concern is: Will I be able to find replacement parts, filters,& seals. Will I need a set of metric tools.

I just bought a MF 245 that had a fire around the battery area. There are all kinds of parts available. Just Google MF 253 or do a search on eBay.

If this tractor was made for the european market, will parts available in the US fit or are the part numbers different?

I honestly don't know nut if you go to Object moved you can look up a the MF 253 parts books. I often look for parts just by Googling the part number. If two very different items have the same part number I'll just narrow it down by adding a one word description of the part I'm wanting. It's a bit of a time consuming procedure but I learn a lot and find some amazing deals on parts sometimes. Like on eBay I can buy all the gauges for my tractor as a kit for around $60 USD.

Went to the web site with mixed results. If I search for 253 I get a parts book. If I search by serial number the site is stuck in the search mode with no results.

I bought a MF 253 back in July and the first thing I ordered was the operators manual and service manual. Find your local Massey AGCO Dealer they can order the parts for you and provide service or you can go to AGCO parts online and setup a account to order parts. A lot of the parts are available as these tractors were and are quite popular. My tractor also has the made in Great Britain tag on it but it was made and imported to America for sale and in some cases were assembled here. I don't think you have a thing to worry about my salesman lives two miles from my home and calls me regularly. There are thousands of the 200 & 300 MF series tractors with interchangeable parts.

I Googled "MF 253" last night. There are lots of parts available from different vendors. Massey's are popular tractor world wide so I don't see you having issues.

I've never searched for parts by serial number. I look up the part number in Agco's parts books and then Google the part number. It's a bit time consuming but works. If someone knows of a better way please share.
