USED OILS

Tried searching several ways. What are doing with all the used oils from maintenance of tractor?

There are many threads. Don't know why search didn't find them. IIRC many use for treating lumber, Trailer decks, fence posts etc.

Our county landfill accepts it free of charge, just dump it in a large tank they have in the recycling section that's before the scales.

Every state and community is different. Texas doesn't allow the sale or use of waste-oil burners/heaters. None of the dumps around here will take it. They won't even take oil filters if they see them. Most oil change service centers and auto parts stores will accept used oil with some volume limits. Best to check around locally. Or return it to the earth and pour it down a gopher hole.

Even Wally World will take it here. I normally collect it into a used milk jug and drop it off on my next trip there.

In Cali the auto parts stores do take it, though I haven't tried in years. 50 hour maintenance coming up, so I am starting to look for most convenient place.

Are you allowed to do burn piles in Illinois? That's another popular option (that I cannot do here in California).

I pour mine into a barrel and when it gets full the recycler comes and picks it up. You should be able to find a recycler in the yellow pages.

I give my fence post a good slather at the base. Then I give any extra to a friend with a oil burning shop heater. To valuable to not use it for something.

Anyone who sells oil in Ma has to take the used oil.

Walmart, Autozone, Advance Auto, and O'Reilly in NC will take 5 gallons of less of waste oil. I have a 5 gallon jug that I use. Don't make a mess in the stores and if you do... Clean it up. (even if you didn't do it) We want to have the service in the future.
