New to the forum. The PTs look like something I may be interested in. I would only need a smaller unit (3 wooded acres used for camping and recreation and for mowing the yard at the house).

Are there any used units out there or is it like the CUT/sub CUT market where everyone keeps the smaller unit when they upgrade. Must be someone who had a PT-180 or equivalent who felt the need to upgrade.

Is North Carolina the only place to see these machines in operation?

Is the PT-180 what I need or do I have to go bigger.

Looking to mow at the house (<¾ acre) and possibly some bush hogging, grading, dragging brush/downed trees (no larger than 4" diameter), and possibly some stump grinding in the future.

Looking at CUTs also.

Thanks,
Daryl

Hello Darylz,
Welcome to TBN and the PowerTrac family of owners. I know many will be answering you with their ideas, here are mine.
I looked for over a year for a used machine to no avail. I then decided to buy a new 425 even though I only have an acre and third. I figured that when my projects were finished I would have no problem selling my PowerTrac as many like you are looking for a used machine. Well, the projects are not over and in fact they just continue to grow in size and number. I have had my 425 since last September so less than a year and already have 240 hours on it. Looking at my bio you will see that I own most of the attachments offered by PowerTrac. Again my reason was that projects require the right attachment and when selling they will all go as a package. My projects started out as the usual yard grooming with mowing and snow removal by season. Now the projects have grown to very large heavy tractor demand which just breaks my heart /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Looking back I bought the right size tractor (425) as the projects got bigger not smaller. Looking back I wish I had bought sooner (had to wait for retirement) but the only right time is when you say yes.
Go for the 425 and have your future projects covered.
Good luck in your research, I only wish I was closer to you so that you could demo mine. Would Louisville (SDF) be a place you could get to? The big EXPO 2004 runs from September 24-26. PowerTrac will be there and you can demo all the different tractors and attachments to your hearts content.

Welcome DarylZ.....looks like you are going through what i did just over a month ago...asking questions...and then more questions! You may want to call Power Trac and ask if there are any owners in your area, you may possibly find somebody nearby that will let you visit and try it out. As mentioned, probably any of the PT's will accomplish your immediate needs and a larger unti will cover you in the future...just depends on your budget and needs. I opted for the 422 but would have purchased the 425 if my budget wold have allowed it, don't have a brush hog(but may in the future) but from what I've read they do a good job on materials you have described. I'm fairly pleased with the 48" mower(I cut apprx. 3 acres) and the smalll bucket has saved my aching back several times...going to re-attach the teeth and start some digging projects soon with it.

Well, I just bought a Kubota B7100 HSE tractor with 60" MMM. It should meet my needs for the near future. Will not rule out a PT for a future purchase!
