A local equipment dealer has a Simplicity Landlord DLX with 20hp Vanguard, 54" deck, 42" dozer blade and wheel weights for $1450. The mower has 550 hours and besides the seat being in rough shape it looks alright for it's age (assuming it was manufactured in 2000 or so). Are these machines any good? Should I be concerned with anything on it with that many hours, such as the engine, K71 trans or the hydraulics for the steering and deck lift?

Well I am mighty fond of Simplicity Landlords, especially with Briggs and Stratton engines, and you can not beat the way they cut grass. Never heard anything bad about the Vanguard models. As far as transmission and hydraulics, I would check out dipsticks and try running the tractor and listen for any whining or hesitation.

I am going to stop by the dealer one night this week if I have time and have them start it up. I have always liked the Simplicity mowers and the new ones I feel are way over-priced. I am looking for this to use as a yard machine, mostly pulling a roller and aerator in which the trans should more than handle. The mower may be used as a backup to my ZTR but I would probably ensure that the deck is fully operational if needed. I am struggling to find a one-does-all piece of equipment without spending a ton of money and this is the only piece of equipment that has seemed reasonably priced.
