I have found a used Buhler 50 " blower about two hours from my house. Fellow sent me pictures of the unit and it needs a good sanding primer and coat of paint. The scraper bar looks like it may have to be replaced also. He states he bought it new but that it's over ten years old. He is asking $1.200 for the unit. I think that is way to high but am asking those that have more knowledge what they think. Scaper

A new consumer grade snowthrower, like a Meteor, runs about $2000 for a 60". I'd weigh the benefit of probably getting heavier construction and better gearbox with a Buhler against the work you have to do. Make sure you pull the filler plug and rotate the auger so you can look at the gears for any damage to teeth. Best if the guy has a tractor there he can hook it up to for you to try. Don't forget a PTO shaft will probably run you another $100 or two, unless it comes with one that fits. To answer your question, that might be what you have to pay in the middle of winter for a snowthrower. Prices go down a lot in July. :)

I wouldn't pay that without seeing it in full blown operation first.
And also as BeezFun says.

I just sold almost that exact unit except mine was closer to 20 years old but not heavily used. Needed paint but otherwise not bad condition. I sold it with PTO shaft for $800 CDN, the purchaser didn't even blink at the price, just wrote me a cheque.
Possible I could have got more for it but, it was a painless deal, no haggling, and $800 in my pocket instead of a piece of equipment taking up space and deteriorating in my yard.
Also, unless they have changed to an actual gearbox that blower will have open gears so no problem to check condition. I just hit the gears with some chain lube when I was doing the chain and they seemd to stand up quite well.

i bought a new one for $1800 in october.

Wow! Your dealer should open a shop around here in Central Maine. People would drive to that place from hours away to catch a deal like that. Around here a new Meteor 50" costs more.

I bought a 60" meteor two years ago that was in very nice shape. It cost me $1200 but it needs paint now.

I think that's a high price. Either that or I sold my 64" blower too cheap. I originally bought mine with my tractor in 04. Used it about 10 times the first winter. Due to my gravel driveway I spent more time replacing shear pins than blowing snow so after sitting outside for 2 years I sold mine for $1200 (sold it to a member here). However, mine was still like new when I sold it. I had cleaned off any rust, masked off the decals, repainted it, and lubed it all up. So I don't think 1200 for a 50" that needs the repairs you mention is that great a bargain.

In N Michigan they wanted 2600.00 for a frontier and a meteor was around 2400.00 so those are some good prices at 1800.00 . If it looks and functions good then 1200.00 is a decent deal, IMO :)

For comparison sake, here in VT, a 54" Meteor runs $1895 new and a 54" Frontier prices out at $2100. An as-new, but used 54" Frontier's on craigslist in Maine for $1750.
