I'm about to buy a 2003 TC45D, R4 tires, with a 16LA fel, & a 6' bush hog box blade. The tractor has 114 hours on it. The PTO has never been used. It's got a crack in the hood from a limb otherwise it's in mint condition. The price is $15,000. I wanted a new Kubota L3130 but this deal seems hard to pass up....what do you think? Sorry it's a TC35D

I was in the same situation last fall. I had been tractor shopping for a year. My first choice was a Kubota 3130 with FEL and BH. I was actually making a deal on the Kubota when a guy at work was selling a 2003 TC-35D 4x4 Hydro R-4's 16LA Fel with toothbar, 757-C backhoe, and a canopy. The tractor looked brand new and only had 85 hours on it. I gave the guy a little over 21K for the tractor and have never regretted it. I now have over 200 hours on the tractor and have zero complaints. I have since added a 3pt log splitter and a Bush Hog SBX-720 box blade. I have been shopping for a rotary cutter and will probably get a Bush Hog SQ720 next week.

The 15K price you have been quoted seems fair to me. What would it cost to buy a new one in your area? I believe New Holland has 0% fiancing back again.

I see you are in South LA. I lived in Lafayette for 2 years, and worked at Intrcostal City and Grand Isle for awhile.

Keep us informed on your decesion.

BTW...Welcome to TBN. Lots of good folks here /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The local dealer had a used TC35D with loader and wanted $17,900. Based on advice here, I thought $15k was a more reasonable price, so I offered the dealer that price, but he didn't go for it. Seems to me that $15k is probably a pretty good deal, and the box blade makes it even better. I am sure more knowledgable people will chime in, but you can see the start of my thread about a new versus used TC35D:
Here

A few people comment on the price of the used TC35D that might help you.

That's a heck of a good deal on that 2003 TC35D. I don't think you will ever regret that purchase over the Kubota.

Noobie's deal was for a 2001 TC35D with over 300 hours. Your deal is much better than that for the money. I'd go for it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Mark, Thanks for replying. I live in Lafayette but last year bought 5.5 acres near Charenton, about an hour south of Lafayette. I priced a new TC33DA with a 14LA fel, & a 5' box blade for $20,000 without taxes or any other charges. A new Kubota L3130 4wd w/LA513 loader w/5.5 bucket is $18,500 w/o tax. Both have a 2 yr 0% financing.

Jim, I've been reading many of your postings plus a lot of others for the past month and you all seem to be very knowlegeable. There are a couple of things I prefer with the NH over the Kubota: placement of the fel stick & the way the seat turns. I am a little skeptical about hydro transmissions. The Kubota that I was interested in had the GST transmission.

Larry, I have been a member of TBN since early 2001 and I can't remember a single instance of a failed hydrostatic transmission on any New Holland tractor. There were some early problems with the external pedal mechanism and welds, but that seems to have disappeared. Some of the early (pre-2001) tractors had a problem that the hydro could come out of gear going downhill, but New Holland corrected that with a recall. I see no reason to have any worries about the hydro. On the other hand, I can assure you that no other transmission is as friendly for loader work. The joystick on the TC35D with the rabbit-turtle switch will rapidly become a favorite feature. If you mow in tight spots and do a lot of back-and-forth movements, you will love the hydro because you won't even think about shifting.

The Kubota with GST is a good tractor, but it just cannot compare with the hydro for the types of jobs I described. The fact that you can get a low-hour TC35D with hydro for a lot less than the Kubota makes this an easy decision in my opinion. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
