I've got some big, big sycamores by my creek that need to come down. Is it worth getting it milled? What uses fit this wood? Thanks.

Sycamore has a very interesting grain pattern when quartersawn, and is used as a specialty wood for that reason. It is also used in butcher blocks. Search for Quartersawn Sycamore on eBay and you will see some pretty pricey pieces, but you would have to kiln dry the wood to be able to sell it that way.

If you were close enough, I'd be willing to take it off your hands. :)
It's a member of the poplar family.
great grain structure and milling properties for furniture making.
use a stain conditioner if you want to give it color - or use spar varnish if you like the "honey gold" look.
good for structural lumber - similar strengths as white pine.
not for applications where it's constantly exposed to the weather, unless it's well sealed/painted. (not ground contact rated)

For the record, the above can also be used to describe cottonwood. (except for the poplar family comment)

I cut several 'Sycamores' a year and split it up for firewood.

The Sycamore trees have so much pollen on them.
