Has anyone had experience using UShip to find a carrier? I am looking at buying a compact tractor about 500 miles away and need to ship it. The tractor weighs approximately 4,000 pounds, plus FEL. Rental trailers that I have seen don't don't apprear to have the carrying capacity I need.

Cheers

I have used it and had good luck shipping snowmobiles and cars. Do not settle on the listed price as you can usually get them to do better.

To give you an idea I shipped a snowmobile from thief river falls, mn to Maine for $300 and a Cadillac escalade from palm springs, ca to Maine for $650....

I used UShip to ship the tractor in my avatar about 480 miles from PA to WV last July and had a good experience. The cost was $520. If I had a big enough truck and trailer, not sure it would have been worth the trip when I could have it shipped for that kind of money.

I've used Uship to haul an IH 2-14 Little Genius plow from Illinois to CA a few years ago. Cost was about $550 for close to 1900 miles. The Seller and the hauler loaded it onto his flatbed with no problem (it's a pull type plow with wheels for transporting).

Just be sure the Seller and hauler can work together to get your new tractor loaded onto the trailer.

Thanks for feedback. We will also need to be able to unload at our end!

I used Uship to haul my Skytrak about 300 miles. It worked out fine and I liked the guy. But remember, you are dealing with an individual and his equipment. What he has may or may not be very suitable for what he is attempting to haul. In my case the trailer was designed for hauling keel boats and we had to improvise to get the Skytrak on and secured. It was a bit questionable and took some rigging.

It worked out fine, but if I wasn't there with equipment and knowhow, it never would have worked.

So, be sure whoever you talk to, understands what you want hauled and be sure they have the right equipment. You can talk to several bidders before you decide. Be ready at both ends for loading and unloading, have clear directions or a map available, stand by with your cell phone. Just common sense stuff, I guess.

I used uShip to get my 110TLB from Oregon to The San Jose CA area.

Overall it worked out well.

Tips:

1. Do not overestimate weight. Most operators charge by the pound and will quote based on your weight estimate. Use the published factory weight. If they weigh it and it is over due to additional equipment be prepared for a surcharge.

2. Communicate directly with the driver, not his dispatcher, on important details. I had a delivery location which is very difficult to get a large tractor-trailer out of, but deceptively easy to get into. I told the dispatcher to have the driver call me from about 1/4 mile away and I would meet him and road the tractor to its final destination, but she never passed that information along to him.

I used Uship last year to transport a compact NH wheel loader, 1400 miles, 13,000 lbs for $2300. Went well. I used a carrier who hauled mostly construction equipment. My original carrier fell off his motorcycle that week and broke his leg. He had a friend of his pick it up and haul it. You will need to have a way to unload and load the tractor.
There was a dock nearby at the destination end. At my end, I used the dock at my local Bobcat dealer with there permission. I then loaded the machine onto my trailer.
A compact tractor should be easy to haul.
