To All: I probably will butcher this question, but I assisted a good friend of mine into a 3520 JD with a 485 backhoe and a JD branded (Frontier) 4n1 bucket. According to my friend, he cannot use the toggle opening switch on the 4n1 without moving a hydraulic hose and cannot use both (the bucket and backhoe) fully at the same time. It sounds like there are not enough PowerBeyond attachment points and appropriate hydraulic routing related to the loader to accomplish this. Of course, he would not want to use the backhoe and the 4n1 at the same moment but I am sure he would prefer not to have to swap hoses on the machine to make his 4n1 open and close in between backhoe uses. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts about how to fix this??? Has anyone encountered this problem. My dealer says it is supposed to be this way, but I have to imagine there is a better way.

There is a better way for sure. Sounds to me like the dealer took the easy way out and plumbed the solenoid valve with QD's to the PB ports at the rear of the tractor...it needs to be plumbed in permanently. If the dealer can't or won't, then he can do it himself.

I have a older 4520 that from the factory, had the 3rd function of the scv run the 4n1. The backhoe was on the power beyond. I plumbed a electric valve in line with the power beyond for the 4n1. Perhaps he could series the two functions like I did. I had to upsize the solenoid valve to keep from choking the power beyond. I did it because I needed three functions on the back for my rear blade. And I wanted to use the 4n1 at the same time.

Thanks to both responders. What do I need to tell the dealer to do and what parts would be needed to correct this issue?? My friend has not had a tractor of this level before and I have had a 4n1 bucket but never a backhoe, so I am not personally that familiar with how it is set up?? My dealer says he knows "no way" to do it, and he has been honest with me in the past, but I cannot help but think there is a better way this time and want to make sure my buddy gets the most out of his $35K purchase. Thanks in advance for the continued advice.

With pictures of the current setup I can assist better...but the valve needs to be hard plumbed into the PB lines. If your dealer can't figure that out-then I don't know how me telling you and then you telling him is gonna help. I will be glad to do what I can, to a certain extent.

Alright John...Tell them this:

1. Mount the valve in a protected place (Probably is already done?)
2. Remove the hardline that goes from the tranny to the OUT PB QD (quick disconnect) at the rear of the tractor.
3. Place a hose from the tranny port to the IN port of the new valve.
4. Place a hose from the OUT port of the new valve to the rear PB bracket where the hardline was removed from.

This effectively puts the new solenoid valve "in series" with the PB line so it can be used at any time. The loop hose must still be placed on the PB ports if the backhoe is dis-mounted as before.

This valve could also be used to operate a hydraulic thumb on the backhoe if he wanted.

This is very direct and to the point...if they have the "Deere in the headlights" look when they hear or read that, then they have no business working on his machine-find another dealer/mechanic.

Kenny, thanks. I am sorry I do not know more about how this was plumbed, but I follow your plan and will implement it. Since this is not my tractor, I am going on what my friend is telling me. I will try to get pix for the responders but I feel I can facilitate getting this resolved.

Good deal John, If you can get me some pictures I can get a little more specific if need be. I also need to know exactly what valve they added.
