If the people riding the transplanter have the plants kept to them all day, This old 2 row "Holland" machine will easily put tobacco or veggies in at the rate of 2-3 acres per day with 16-24 inch plant spacing in the row and 36-40 inches between rows. These 2 row units usually are seen with one big 300 gallon water tank on them. Someone has modified this one with 2 55 Gal. barrels. Just have to stop for water more often. I have pulled and rode on the back these over several hundred acres back in the day. Many of our customers are using the 1 row units in large gardens and truck patches for tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, sweet potatoes or any stem type plant. What most people don't know about these units, is that, you can remove the stem pocket chain reel and then the operators can drop any seed down through the sword. The machine makes the row, the operator drops the seed, the machines can add water and then cover up the row. This is a real efficient way to put in pumpkins, watermelons, corn, beans, peas, etc. With used corn planters getting so expensive, a lot of foodplotters are using the 1 row transplanters to seed the plots and then the garden. No seat belts, No ROPS, no guards by the press wheels, etc.

Man I love old machinery that just worked.

They would only be moving at walking speed and all the people associated with the operation are on the business end of the machine and never go around back where the dirt scrappers are located on the press wheels. With that said, I can say when I was 7 yrs old, curosity got the best of me and I put my finger on the back wheel and it went into the spring loaded scrappers and I did lose a fingernail. I learned that fishing worms were better found elsewhere. Ken Sweet
