Using DGA road base for ground cover-can someone check my numbers?

I need to get some stone down in the back yard where I bring my truck in to dump firewood/run the splitter, etc...I also want to make a sitting area with a firepit so it all needs to be built up and covered with stone. After measuring a series of boxes I added up all the square footage to just under 2500 square feet so I rounded up to that. Average depth is going to be 4". Here is what I did:

2500 sq ft x 144 (1 square foot converted to inches) = 360,000 sq in

360,000 sq in x 4 in = 1,440,000 cu in

1,440,000 cu in / 1728 (1 cubic foot converted to inches) = 833 cu ft

833 cu ft / 27 (1 cubic yard converted to feet) = 30 cu yds

Does that look right? If so I need 30 yards of material. Then I looked up the weight per yard of DGA, which, according to a few sources is about two tons per yard, which means I need about 60 tons. What is the usual capacity of a triaxle? Will I need two deliveries?

I get about 31 yards, so I think you're right. Generally, loose gravel products average about 1.4 tons (2800#) per yard as an easy to remember number. It varies depending on the size and density.

You are correct, but it would also depend on the dimensions of the truck bed. They are not the same size, they vary in size. Just a thought?

That's a long row to hoe for a quick calculation.

Square Feet Multiplied by Depth in Inches Divided by 324 = Cubic Yards

In your case 30.864 or 31 cubic yards.

S219 has the right idea on tons per yard. Your supplier will be able to tell you for sure.

You won't find a tri-axle that will haul that kind of weight, so yes, you'll need more than one load.
