using innertubes rather than buying new tire

hi

i have 23x8.50-12 turf tires and one has some pretty nasty holes that I can't seem to plug without them leaking air.

1) is it possible to use inner tubes rather than buy new tires?
2) can i install these inner tubes without special tubes?

It is possible to patch your tires from the inside of the tire..I had this done to one of mine..there is a term for it but I am having a senior moment and can't remember it...on of the other guys will know.

Sure, you could use tubes, but tubes will not make your tires less susceptible to punctures in the future.

Like Bob said, you can have your tire(s) patched. The tire is removed from the wheel and a patch is installed on the inside of the tire. As long as your tire is structurally sound, a patch is as good as new.

If the hole is so big that a patch cannot fix, a new tire may be in order.

Also if you feel a tube is in order, be sure to use a tire boot (sort of a reinforcing patch) inside the tire to help prevent entry by foreign objects. A small bit of sand or small stone can migrate though some tire injuries eventually wearing a hole in a tube itself.

Or... you can do what I did when the patch didn't work... have the tires foamed filled and no more flats.

Took a flat front tire (14") to the tire shop last month but it(the tire) was on its last legs so the dealer installed a tube. When he gave me the price for a new set I ordered them and he didn't charge me for the temporary tube repair. (The other front tire has had a tube for two years.)

Plug? I hope you meant patch..

patch them with good HD farm patches.. should be fine.

If you like you can go to tubes.. but make sure you still patch all holes and remove any (YUCK) plugs from them. will have to pull the valve stem from the non tube rim, and make sure your tube stem will match up.

so, am i to understand that plugs are frowned upon???? a new tire is about $60. what might patching it from the inside cost?

can any of this work be done without going to a tire shop?

also, what do you think about that green slime stuff that you fill tires with to repair small holes?

My fronts would go down over a 10 day period... I checked to make sure the stems were holding and they were... I slimed both front tires two years ago and zero problem with slow leaks... I think it really helps with very slow leaks... it won't do anything for bigger ones and that is why I had my rears foamed filled after two attempts at patching failed.

plugs generally damage a tire.. especially belted ones.

patches don't

all you do is break down the tire and patch from the inside.
