Here's a link I found to Kohler Mufflers -
Kohler mufflers and exhaust systems from Tulsa Engine Warehouse
On my 425, I don't think it matters which side is the exhaust as the exhaust just blasts through the expanded metal of the cover.
The original was loud to begin with, and is now MUCH louder.
The one model shown here is $90.20 plus shipping, the quieter one (down the page a bit) is $129.63 plus shipping, still a lot lower cost than PT! Probably lower cost for a non welder than some of the custom systems attempted.
A concern is that these don't have the "heat shield" cover, so I don't know if that is a real issue or not. Seems my model year has plenty of room between the engine and the battery.
I've use some rental equipment w/mufflers like these is I'd say that the noise level is way less than 1/2 the original PT welded box muffler. So much quieter that you can hear valve train mechanical noise.
Any thoughts about trying these without the muffler wrap?
Thanks!
