Got the tractor at the homestead currently so thought I would put it to work laying 130' of 4" drain pipe. Only implement I have is a King KutterXB Middle Buster/Subsoiler combo from my old B7500. I used a couple buckets of rocks to help weight it down to get better depth.

I started out with a couple passes with the ripper then followed up with the Subsoiler to dig the trench. It seemed to dig fine, but the tailings kept falling back into the trench. I tried at several different speeds but the result was the same. I'm thinking either it was too deep to effectively push the dirt out of the trench or just too dry.

At any rate, I followed up with a trench shovel and scooped the tailings out. Was hoping to finish the job without picking up a single hand tool but only took 1 1/2 hrs to scoop out the tailings and it was much easier to do that than dig the trench by hand.

Anyway, YMMV but thought I'd post up my experience.

Hi,

I guess you can't complain about the minimal amount of work with your idiot stick that was required to make a nice open trench that long and wide.

Good work, and a good example of what a middle buster and subsoiler can do with the right tractor, driver, and supplemental weight :) .

Nice post.

Nice work! I just picked up a KK Middle Buster today, after reading this thread I'm feeling inspired to do the same! My driveway needs a little drainage improvement.

How deep did you go down? I need to do some, trenching also.

I think it was at least a minimum of 6" maybe more in some places as I tried to build in a slope. This is another reason I probably had so much of of the tailings fall behind it. If I had to do over again, I would try to go down an inch at a time to see if that helped any.

Seemed to have around 2" backfill above the 4" pipe.
