Has anybody ever used rhino liner or line x on the underside of their mmm for protection? If so how does it work? Thoughts or concerns please. Thanks in advance.

I would think the underside of a MMM should be smooth and shiny and as non stick as possible to allow for free flowing of grass out the chute. Applying Rhino liner or similar will give it a textured surface or something for the grass to catch and stick to.

On my mower I clean, prime, and paint the underside of the deck. At present I use Rustoleum but have been thinking of using snow plow paint which is supposed to have silicone in the paint to make it non stick.

Someone should try making a mmm out of that heavy plastic like the honda mowers. The stuff is indestructable and is very nonstick. Have to admit I was very skeptical of it, but I figured it's been out for a while now. I absolutely love it. That honda is hands down the best mower I've ever used.

I think some kind of HEAVY, TOUGH plastic could possibly be a good deck material for a FINISH mower, but I can't imagine it working well for a rotary cutter, or "shredder" as we call them in this part of the country.

My shredders have been run over about everything you can imagine. The underside of my shredders have to be strong enough to contain a hand grenade to hold up to the stuff that they ingest.

To the OP's question, I agree with others that a texture such as Rhino Liner would not make for good shredder performance.

My $0.02,

Durabak makes a coating that is the same as bedliner but without the texture. It can be sprayed or rolled on. I use it textured on my flatbed trailer deck and smooth in my enclosed trailers so I can sweep them out. It is great stuff, the down side is it only comes in gallons and it doesn't store very well once exposed to the air. I have used grain trailer paint under my mower before. It is a graphite based paint. It is so slick not very much will stick to it. It doesn't wear good though. It must be recoated every year.

Since the original poster referred to a mmm, I assume we are talking about a finish mower, not a brush hog or shredder. If this is the case, I would think rhino or line-x would work great...but, you must be willing to take that chance. They are both fairly slick when wet, seem to have very good non-stick characteristics, and I'm more than sure they would hold up to the abuse - they were originally developed to line mining carts in South Africa!

I would be very skeptical. Especially if it was green plastic. I have had poor luck (also operator error) with green plastic.

I think a slick plastic similar to the UHMW stuff woodworkers use for their fences might be a possibility. The problem is the material needs to be slick and tough so grass, etc can't get a toe-hold and grab on to clog things up.

If I were going to coat my deck with any kind of 'tuff paint' type coating, this would be my choice. In my completely unqualified opinion, the absolute last thing you want on any mower deck is any kind of texture. The grass muck is sticky enough as it is. So that last thing you want to do is create an environment where its that much easier for the clippings to find purchase and stick.

I used the textured durabak to coat the floor of a Jeep I used to own and I was impressed with the quality of the product and the durability of the coating once cured. The stuff drys like concrete and seems to last forever. If I were going to use anything besides standard issue rattle can spray paint on my mower deck, non-textured durabak (as expensive as it is) would be my choice.

And in fact now that I read this thread, I'm thinking that investing in a durabak treatment might not be a bad idea for next years end of season mower maintence. A quart would probably do my mower deck and my neighbors with plenty left over.

I don't see the problem with textured or smooth finish under the mmm .. Even if you start out with a perfectly smooth surface as soon as you start mowing the grass that sticks makes it an textured surface with the grass that has stuck to it..

I'm redoing the deck on my g1800 this winter and would like to see what others say here too,,
