Using Round-Up around trees?

Jim -

Had to go through a friend of a friend of a friend who was professional landscaper, but I was able to come up with a 5-gallon jug of RoundUp for about $120

Think we're getting ripped off on the smaller containers? Or do you think those little plastic quart bottles really do cost 30 bucks apiece to make? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I have killed poisen ivy with Round-up, but only by mixing 5oz. of Round-up and 1oz. of Wex(any good surfactant would do) per gallon of water. That is a pretty hot mix, but then that is the only thing that has worked for me other than gasoline, but that is even more dangerous than tne poisen ivy. Poiaen Ivy is tough. Good luck.

I tried the roundup, it didn't seem to effect the ivy. I only did a single spraying. when I get a chance I'm gonig to try to spray it a couple of times over a few day period.

What's a surfactant? Will it do anything to my trees?

Shorty, It is like soapy water. it breaks the surface tension of the small dropplets and makes them spread out and stick to the seurface that has ben sprayed.

Wouldn't a little bit of liquid dishwashing soap work as well as the Wex? That's all I've ever used.

Hi ya
is this ivy got a shiny leaf?? if so maybe a penetrant like "pulse" would be better as it cuts through waxy leafs .a surfactant may help it spred but it may not get it into the plant in this case .also how long ago did ya spray? round up is quite slow acting some hard to kill things may take longer to start showing signs
catch ya

Shorty, take a stick or tool and scratch up the surface on some leaves or bark. Then spray the scratched area. Sometimes the waxy coating on the leaves prevents chemical penetration. Also using a surfactant is a good idea. Don't touch the tool or stick though, unless you like to itch.
