USPS = Horrible Service

Was expecting a package from Amazon last Friday. USPS was showing it out for delivery.

It started snowing here early Friday morning & knowing the track record of our mailman was only halfway expecting it to get delivered.

Sure enough no mail delivery on Friday even though we only had about 3-4" of snow during the day.

Friday night I get an email update saying delivery was attempted & a notice was left & to call to reschedule the delivery.

Saturday morning I call the post office & they sure we have your package but there was no mail delivery yesterday and you can come by & pick it up since there will be no mail deliveries today either. I told them no I won't be by to pick it up since I paid for it to be delivered to my house.

Saturday night I get another email that they attempped delivery & a notice was left.

Now by Saturday morning we did have about 6-8" of snow but the roads had been graded once & were passable.

We never get the mail until about 4pm and it finally showed up yesterday afternoon about 5 pm.

It has gotten to the point that if we get storms & heavy rain we don't get mail delivery.

Makes you wonder about what happened to the "rain, sleet, snow, or dark of night nothing stops the mail"

I know such things are annoying, but havn't we become just a little too spoiled? Instant gratification, or at the very least, next day!

Ah, but you see, they did officially show that they officially tried to deliver the letter. Thus, it was a clever way to cover up the fact the carriers were in the back room playing cards.

Let the PO be late delivering your tax return and see if the IRS gives you a pass. Not a chance.

Honestly as a former mailman, I can tell you that they WERE NOT in the back room playing cards. They were at the VFW hall getting pissed.

Not too sure where you are getting the "instant gratification" part.

I don't order very much from Amazon & I'm not a prime member. I actually paid about $10 for delivery and the option I chose was 5-7 day delivery.

Not too much "instant gratification" in that.

My local post office where I have my PO box is about the worst place to go. They typically have 2 people behind the counter who are so friggin slow, there is always a line out the door just to mail a package. Every customer that gets to the counter, it's like a social hour..bla bla bla.

Just that every one wants everything right away. People expect you to have your phone with you at all times and are annoyed when they can't contact you immediately. Sometimes I leave the phone in the truck for days, dead! Sorry, too bad.

Just ordered some stuff from China. About three to four weeks delivery. No big deal.

We don't even have Saturday Delivery here.

My problem is that they flat out lied about the attempted delivery. It wouldn't have surprised me if they had returned it as undeliverable.

His entire route is less than 20 miles. I drove 50 miles to work in the snow & none of it is interstate. While coming home from work I saw at least 2 other carriers from the same PO delivering the mail.

We had the same issue. I can understand delays due to weather and wouldn't fault them for that (some roads were impassable up until this morning), but the tracking said "delivery attempted, notice left with further instructions" when they clearly didn't attempt delivery -- we were home the whole time from Friday through Monday.

If you really wanted it that bad you should have sprung for UPS Next Day Air... But you didn't 'cause you were cheap. I have to agree with the guy from Ontario, way too much whining. Must be a Democrat......:laughing:

At least it didn't ship DHL, if it did, you might still be waiting............

Out of all the ways of shipping to my house, I prefer the USPS.

My wife paid next day air for a small shipment to me, and it took 5 days. When I complained at the destination, they said they didn't have that service to that location.

I prefer postal service for shipping unless I need something the next day or two. IF I do need the item in one or two days then I get the shipper to put it on the bus. The bus is for domestic shipments only.

I'll bet you'd complain if you didn't get your paycheck in a timely fashion. Or do Republicans not do that?

Just about every carrier is guilty of things like that.

Last year I ordered repair parts for my tractor so I could get it back in operation and be ready for snow. The order was supposed to arrive on a Thursday, we got a little dusting of snow on Wednesday night. On Thursday, school buses ran on schedule, USPS delivered, but UPS didn't. I looked at the tracking and they said they were unable to deliver because of weather conditions, but they did show that they'd delivered a UPS Smartpost package to the post office for me. I can stand on my front porch and see the post office. That night we get another dusting of snow, buses ran, garbage pickup ran, everything else was just fine, but once again UPS was unable to deliver because of weather conditions and to top it off that time, I saw the UPS truck leaving town on the road across the railroad tracks from my house.
I raised absolute cain with the UPS office, but the said they wouldn't get in touch with the driver and get him to return, there was nothing they could do because their drivers made the call if road conditions were bad. When I told them that the roads were fine and that everybody else was driving on them, they said that their driver must have seen something that kept him from driving on that road. But they did tell me that they would ensure the package was delivered on Saturday delivery, even though I wasn't on the route for that. Friday night we get a bit more than dusting, but the roads were scraped and salted very early that morning. USPS ran, but no UPS delivery. Another very long and bloody telephone call with UPS, but they couldn't or wouldn't give me a reason why the package wasn't delivered as promised.
Sunday night we get a good snow, one that shut down the schools, roads were terrible on Monday morning. It would have been a good time to have a running tractor that could clear snow.
About 11 AM, UPS pulled up in front of the house and when the wife tried to take the package, the driver said he had specific instructions to place it in my hands and no one else and that he absolutely had to deliver it that day. She called and asked me to come back to the house to accept delivery, but I balked, telling her that at that point it didn't make much difference when I got the parts, but I certainly wasn't going to stop what I was doing and go back to the house.
The UPS driver asked the wife for directions to the farm so he take it to me! When he got down there, he saw there was no way he could get up that hill, so I stood looking out the window and watched him stumble, slip and slide up the hill to the garage.
When he handed me the package, you could tell he was teed off, but all he said was that if I expected deliveries, I should do a better job of keeping the driveway clean.
I told him that if the package had been delivered on the day it was supposed to, the road would have been clean and that it was never supposed to have been delivered to the farm in any case.

Since then, my UPS packages have always been delivered on schedule. Twice this Christmas season, they delivered after 9 PM because they were so busy, but both times the driver made sure that he told me how busy he'd been and he knew better than take them pack to the sort facility.

Sorry about the long winded rant, and usually UPS does a pretty good job, but for some reason I happened to be on the short end of the stick on two days when the driver got lazy

Out my way I get deliveries from USPS, FedEX & UPS. They all seem to do OK. I always have to remind them to leave any deliveries at the road and not come down the driveway in the winter. I had a "Big Brown" van/truck stuck halfway down my driveway several years ago. What a JOY it was getting him unstuck and turned around in my yard. I guess I've never ordered something and worried about how long it took to get here. They will project a delivery date and time(always in the PM, I'm at the very end of their run) and regardless of weather its always been here on that date.

The real problem with the USPS is the individuals. I remember when postmen and women took pride in what they did, smiled, waved, and were respected. They did little favors for people on their route, and the people helped them out in various ways. Now it seems like those good employees are few and far between. I did have a good rural delivery woman. She loved her job, was always friendly, stopped to chat a second or two when she drove up to the house to drop off a box, etc. We went out of our way to make things more convenient for her. Now we have someone different. We rarely get delivery on Saturdays now, no delivery if it snows (she drives right on past), and she tosses our mail on the ground with no cover if she drops something at the house. The service went from a '10' to a '2' simply by changing drivers. Oh, and the reason this new one won't stop for delivery in bad weather is because her car has no traction. Even though we placed our mailbox where the UPSP told us to, it's on a small hill on the road. When she stops on a snow covered incline, her car cannot get moving again. Somehow that's my problem she drives an unsafe vehicle. I think the difference is my old delivery people had careers, and the new employees have jobs.

Our drive is 1000' and up a winding incline. The regular drivers know I try to keep it cleared and will have a turnaround cleared by the house (especially when expecting deliveries). If the entrance is plowed, they'll drive in without worry. UPS drivers have been great here. Last year we had an unexpected delivery before I plowed the deep snow, and the UPS guy parked on the road and walked/ran the box all the way up the drive to the house. I still feel bad for the guy.
