I need to make an appoint with my primary doctor.
Main need is pain pills that actually work. have had some that do little or nothing.
Almost constant pain in back & other places.

Does the VA pay any disability payments ????
If so does it depend on rank, length of service???

All I have ever had was a VA home loan.

Thanks
Jim

Your first move should be is see your local veterans officer. He can tell your every thing you need to know. Rank or length of service has nothing to do with disability. You have to apply for disability. I am a combat veteran of Viet Nam and was exposed to agent orange. I had no trouble getting va payments.

Join the VA. Think it's only $18/yr, and you get a magazine and free prize on joining.

A friend of mine got his hearing aids from them. That's a pretty substantial benefit.

I joined once and got a free watch but haven't signed up again. Guess I should have to get my hearing aids, as they were around $4,000. Main problem is I'd have to go quite a bit farther to get to a VA facility. VA should link up with Medicare and allow us to use any places we use on Medicare.

The VA should pay disability if the injury was service related. If so, you will have to produce documentation in the form of medical reports, etc. You can receive care from the VA if you are a vet, but I understand there is some kind of sliding scale of costs based on income.

Opiate based pain pills are hard to come by these days. Doctors can only prescribe for short term, like 10 to 12 pills, and doctor's prescriptions for opiates are closely monitored.

Have you had physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, massage therapy, in that order of effectiveness?

In these corrective, rather than palliative therapies, some practitioners have a higher success rate than others.

If your pain is not directly related to your military service, Social Security Disability is where to seek support.

It is important to realize the Social Security Disability is for people too disabled to hold any kind of job. Pain, even considerable pain, probably will not qualify you if you are working. Social Security examines your income tax records.

And my dad who has 2 purple hearts had the stuff rain down on him gets nothing. He was denied twice. Has a nasty rash on his legs. They '' state'' that where he was at did not have agent orange applied even though it would rain the stuff at night and the next day everything was dead.
Moral is get your ducks in a row as they can make it difficult.
Luckily he had a good job and retirement and is comfortably living.

That is only the case for new prescriptions (in my state). For chronic conditions you can still get a 30 day supply. Just picked up a script the other day for granny. 90 pills. They are more regulated though with more paperwork to be filled by the MD.
X2 on trying to fix the cause by therapy.

Start here - Health Benefits Explorer - Military Service Questions

It will walk you through a bunch of pre-qualification questions.

If you get through those questions, then there's a link where you can go to enroll.

If for some reason you're denied, then work the he77 out of your local veterans officer and get with the American Legion to have them help you. If all else fails, a last ditch effort is to get your congressman involved.

Which is a good thing...it's my understanding that most of the addiction problems in the New England area are the result of opiate pain pill abuse
