Want to lock up a Morton building with an apartment in it for months at a time. Been trying to make sense of all the posts on alarm systems... Too many choices for me. What I'm looking for is a couple of motion sensors that turn on flood lights and sets off an alarm that will wake up the dead.. But also want a video camera system that I can view remotely on a laptop or an Iphone. Does this mean two different systems? Appreciate any thoughts. Thx.

Hi, Security Labs has an economical system, 960H that has all of that. The 4 cameras have IR for night viewing and the system will alarm and send you a text if you have it connected to the internet. You can also look-in real-time with you smartphone. You can set it up to only record if motion is detected or on a timed interval or constant.

Curious what you want to see remotely. I have been in this business for twenty five or so years and am always getting calls from people with very misguided notions about video systems. My favorite one is the people who want to "catch" so and so! Good luck with the law and courts on that one!

Your "waking the dead" approach is the right idea in my way of thinking but this is in oposition to the industry norm. Some companies put a three dollar piezo siren downstairs at the panel. It's not uncommon for me to use six, thirty watt horn type sirens in one building. Yes, they take time and money to install and configure. No lick and stick job! But with police or guard response being questionable or non existant, they are your first line of defence, ans sure do catch criminals by surprise.

I did one house some years back, and the place was broken into the night the kitchen cabinets were delivered. All you could see was two burn out skid marks going down the driveway where the suspects had fled in a hurry. That felt good!

There is always something newer and better. Industrial toy is right about sirens. One needs them loud and obvious.............I would not try to just go with one system, but go for "functions" instead. Lights, alarms, video, and communication. Lights are easy. infrared sensor driven solar battery or 110 floods are a dime a dozen and dependable. Setting them up where they are triggered on as someone enters your property and all the way up to and around the premise. Check out Lorex systems. Call their customer service and advise them of your problem. They have systems, not inferior but reasonable, that alarm, notify you, and send you video feeds on the internet and your smart phone.....................God bless.........Dennis

I also have a 960H (from a different vendor). It actually works quite well for a fairly inexpensive DVR.
It does have an alarm output that is capable of triggering external devices like lights and alarms, but it would take a bit of electrical knowledge to connect it up properly. The alarm output relay has a limited current rating of 3 amps at 12vdc.

I connected the alarm output from the 960H to an Opto board to control as many 110/240 volt lights/horns you could ever want. It is easy to do and fairly inexpensive.
