We are planning to go the Vancouver/Seattle area in the second week of October. Looking for suggestions of "must-sees" - a little bit on the sedate side (no climbing Mt. Ranier).

Lot's to see and do here. We live 20 miles out of Seattle. If interested, send me a PM before you come and we can help you to set some stuff up.

The Pike Place Market (mentioned above) is a must see. I also recommend a tour of underground Seattle and to visit the Space Needle. A visit to the San Juan Islands by ferry can be a pleasent trip if the weather's good. The Mount Ranier Senic Railroad is interesting, but may be closed for winter by that time.

Here's a link with some ideas:

Oh yeah, make sure you see the troll under the bridge.

I lived in Victoria most of my life, it is a beautiful city. As mentioned on another post Butchart Gardens is great year round. Also if you are into museums then downtown Victoria has the Royal BC Museum. :)

A lifelong, fifth generation Washingtonian endorses this one. Drive up Hoods Canal from Olympia to Port Townsend, or ferry from Seattle to Bremerton, then drive to Pot Townsend, or Drive from Tacoma across the Narrows bridge (Remember Galloping Gerty) and drive to Port Townsend. Spend a little time there. Catch the ferry to Whidby Island (one of the largest islands in the US) and drive the length of the island to Deception Pass. Stop and walk out on the bridge, but don't forget to walk the beach in the state park down below for a quintessential northwest experience. Spend some time in one of the Skagit Valley towns. Consider either Vancouver, BC (drive) or Victoria, BC (ferry from Anacortes, or Victoria Clipper from Seattle).
