We just replaced the belt on our Valtra tractor Air Conditioning. After starting it up, the compressor was hot and there was still no AC. It hadn't been operated for awhile. The manual suggested that the compressor may be lock and to loosen the bolt. Where is the bolt. The diagrams don't show much at all. I thought we should try this before driving it into town.

Compressors will get hot when working normally. If you had a locked compressor, it would ruin your belt fairly fast, to the point of destroying it. Plus the pulley on the front of the compressor would not be spinning...and the compressor wouldn't be hot.

Do you have an AC pressure gauge to see what pressure is in the system? If the compressor is hot (meaning working) and you have no cooling you may just have a low charge.

There are two steel lines attached to the compressor. One will have a larger diameter. It's normal for the smaller diameter line to be hot. The larger line should be cold as the compressor depends on this cold to cool itself internally. So if the larger line is warm or hot you are low on refrigerant.
