I've just finally inherited my grandfathers 55 Allis Chalmers HD5 dozer. It has a Baker blade and is hydraulic straight blade. It's been sitting for many years. I'm in the process of getting it ready to do some work around my new house but the hydraulic valve for the blade is leaking out of the top where the lever spins. The spool goes vertical and I believe the reason I'm leaking right under the top of the lever(where it spins) is because there must be oil bypassing up by the machined surfaces. Probably wallowed(sp?) out over years of use. But, this dozer probably only has 3k hours on her so it may also be rust down there...? There is no leakdown, plenty of down pressure. I just cannot stand leaks. I'll try to post some pics.
Local hydraulic shop said if I can get the valve off that there is a place in Michigan where they send them and for about $500 they can rebuild them. I'd really like to cut out the middle man so if any of you know where this could be done I may be interested in having it done this summer after I get some work done with the machine.
I called around and found that the company AW Cash has split many times and is now called Cash Acme and Cash Valve and more but no one has any info other than it was called the Cash tractor valve. Used in military, navy and more this is a really nice valve and even today operates better than newer machines I've run.

What does it look like when you pulled the plate held by the two bolts you have loose. This there a way to fashion a rubber seal that might make the leak rate acceptable? I take it controls the blade well and from the photo stains it has leaked for a long time when it was in use.

I am sure the dozer will be fun to use too.

A neighbor died when concrete blocks crushed and the load landed on his head so if you and get wood like on the other side of the blade I would rest better. :)

I take it you have the lever off? It looks like someone has work on it before and tried to stack it tight. If it was me I would take a puller and see if I could pull it, there just might be a seal around were it turns or a o ring. I'm looking at the 3rd picture and guessing that is the part that turns.

The seal should just be an oring. In Oregon the best company to get seals from is Seal Source Inc @ 503-281-0020. It has been a while since I used them. Hopefully they are still in business.

I pulled the disk off with the two bolts then removed the housing with the 6 bolts. The only type of seal is the one that is in the housing I removed but it looks to be just a dust/dirt seal. There are no other seals at the top.
I'll have another look at it today and see what I can figure out.
As for the blocks I ended up putting wood under everything and not that I would trust it but the blade does not creep at all.
Great machine! I ran it myself when I was 7 and I'm 45 now. My family had lots of AC's in their business back before I was born. This dozer was considered the benchmark in it's day as it had a modern hydraulic setup and was very easy to service. It starts without a pony motor and the GM diesel has oodles of power. It will push a full blade and then some and is a great size. Definitely have to be an "operator" as there is no hydrostatic tranny, tilt/six way blade or any of the modern luxuries. You get a workout pulling the steering clutches!
Then again it's pretty straightforward to work on except trying to locate parts.

Yessir a great machine, and still running after 57 years, geez I love these old dozers, and some memories attached as well. I wish I had my Dad's Cat D6, 8u series, it had a cable operated blade and i as a boy can remember getting a "workout" on the steering clutches and blade controls. It's a real bummer about the parts:mad:. It would be interesting to see some of the modern day equipment in 50 or 60 years time. How about some pix of you running the old girl when you get the leaks sorted, and good luck with parts and repairs.
