I just read in the local Menard's insert they re having a sale this week on a gallon of that product's 10W-30 and 15W-40 for $9.99. The label says it's approved for Cummins diesel engines....I am a long-term user of Shell Rotella-T 15W-40 in my tractor and that costs about $13-14 per gallon. I will have to check to see if the advertised Valvoline meets the Deere specs for oil. Or would a member here know? Thank you.

Can't find 10W-30 diesel engine oil anywhere on Valvoline's website. Sure is a good deal if you can get it.

Valvoline is good oil. I don't use it but wouldn't be afraid to. That being said if you are a fan of rotella how many gallons do you use a year? If just for your tractor maybe 2-3 gallons a year? Is $8-12 worth the dilemma of the change?

The cost of oil is such a tiny piece of the puzzle for most hobbyist tractor users I would just use what makes you feel good and not worry about the price.

We have started using Deere's plus 50 in everything. I buy it in 55 gallon drums from the construction dealer and it doesn't cost much more than any other oil when I buy it in bulk like that. I use it in my tractor, skid steer, backhoe, dump truck, semi, pickups, UTVs, generator, etc.

Good points on your part...I go thru 2 gallons of the Rotella-T a year (60-70 operating hour oil and filter changes) and I am not concerned about the price. I started the original thread mainly because I thought the price was excellent for a diesel oil and was thinking other others members here might want to be aware of the sale. May I inquire what a 55 gallon drum of the Deere Plus-50 costs you per gallon? I currently pay about $14 a gallon (before tax) for a 5W-30 private label brand synthetic (Meijers) oil per gallon that meets the Dexos specs and that I use in all our road vehicles.

It is about $15 a gallon in the 55 gal drums. Not the cheapest but it is good oil and not that much more than anything else name brand.

Run it in my backhoe, tractor and f250 with 7.3l. Usually because I find it on sale at that price.

Valvoline is good oil. Yes, approved for Cummins. It is made by Ashland, which is in partnership with Cummins. It is about average and compares to the other name brands.
