hi,
Any comments on Valvoline synthetic, 5w30. I just bought some and will use it at least once in my 2004 Camry. I want the car to last a long time. Will change the oil every 4k miles. Am I wasting my money? thanks, brett w

I've used synthetic oil for many years and am convinced the engines last longer on it. I follow the manufacturers service intervals whether it's for the tractor or auto.

All synthetic oil is not the same; search the previous threads on this topic and you will see. But any fully-synthetic oil will give better protection and last longer under high heat than any conventional oil. I have torn down many engines that did and didn't run synthetic oil, and there is no doubt in my mind that synthetic is better and worth the extra cost if you're going to keep your car for a long time.

I don't have an opinion on the Valvoline synthetic as I've never used it or seen the specs on it; Mike or someone else who reads this forum regularly that also reads the BITOG web pages can probably tell you about it. But Toyota and synthetic oil is a winning combination in my book - I've owned many (own three now) and they have all been good for hundreds of thousands of miles.
