Does anyone know if there is a drive pulley available to fit the flywheel side of a vanguard engine ? I wan't to drive a small hydraulic pump on that side of a 18 hp.

I would advise against it. The overhang would place a tremendous stress on the crank. Is there even a bearing on that side? What's wrong with the PTO side? If you have to use flywheel side, I'd use a direct coupling--Inline with the axis of the flywheel. Simple enough to make one. I think the flywheel is already threaded.

Briggs makes a stub shaft kit that bolts to the flywheel. I have also found that if you use the electric start only version of the engine that the stub shaft extends too far into the fan housing and you have very little length to work with. The stub shaft kit replaces the rope starter making the engine electric start only, but seems like there is a difference in the length of the nose on the flywheel which only allows like 2.5 inches of the stub shaft to extend from the fan screen instead of the complete 4 or so inches of the shaft.

I can drive it off the PTO side but the application would be easier on the flywheel side .
