I'll weigh in. We "inherited" three of these propane units when we bought our place. Dependent on non-natural gas sources, out here.
After trying them for a bit, I sold them all on Craigs. The smell perhaps is tolerable, but the water produced isn't. It would create a severe mold, mildew and wooden window damage, at least in our usage. Fine for a garage or shop, but not an insulated, buttoned up house. Just way too much water.
I put it a Empire vented propane space heater. Yes, they are certainly more money, but quite efficient, noise free, produces 4 times the btu and can operate with convection just fine without electricity. Heats the whole 1300 square ft, full finished basement house without breaking a sweat, and that is in our weather, here at 45th parallel. FWIW
