I was in the Verizon store yesterday returning a MIFI since we use more than 5gb of data each month.. The salesman were really trying to get me to keep the device until Thursday because 'they said' that Verizon was going to lower pricing on current plans and offer a 10gb plan..

so anyone that cant get DSL/cable and doesnt want to do satellite - and use more than 5gb/mth, Verizon may have something for you.. Assuming you get a good Verizon 3g signal.

I was told:

5gb mobile broadband would be $50 (instead of $60)
10gb would be $80
and the overage charges would be between $10 and $20/GB (instead of $50/gb)

Thanks for the heads up!. I also have the wifi from Verizon and frequently go over the 5g allotment, which is diddly in this age.

Will be checking with Verizon soon.

You can already get 10GB for $60/mo from here, no contract required, and it uses Verizon network.

Millenicom | Wireless Broadband Plans

I thought I had explored all of my options for wireless broadband before I decided on the Verizon MIFI (not having a clue to how much usage we actually use a month) - I wish I had found Millenicom before - I would have gone with their 10gb plan - but added a cradlepoint router for multiple person use..

For others that may be interested in Millenicom

5gb and 10Gb is $60/mth - uses Verizon- you do have to buy a usb modem from them though

The offer an unlimited service and a 'bring your own device' plan for about $70 - It only used the Sprint network though..

These 5 and 10gb plans are stupid. That was more than enough 5-10 years ago before the rise of Netflix, Hulu, YouTube etc. I have slow DSL at 1.5mbs, but at least I don't have to worry about going over all of the time.

I travel a lot. I have stopped into no less than 8 different Verizon stores with different questions while debating which Droid to buy. At 8 different stores, I get 8 different answers. I have found that salesmen are nothing but lawyers without the degree.

They may be Lawyers WITH degrees... ever get a straight answer from a lawyer???

..And I agree 5g-10g is just stupid but I bet it is allot of $$ for them. Still better service than I got from sprint and so far no surprises on the billing statement like I had with Sprint.

Limited infrastructure and technology build-outs require ceilings of some sort.

Totally depends on what is being accessed. With my Android phone I have only used over 200MB once. And that was due to an out of control application the ATT could/would not identify. The application consumed 135MB overnight! I have read other people have had similar usage spikes but ATT says they know nothing but I have read they can know something. I had to add 2GB to the plan for a couple of months anyway since we were going on vacation. But even then I just went to 300MB.

Answering/Reading email and reading my websites does not use up much bandwidth.

For home use on the PCes there is no way we could throttle back to even 10GB a month. At least not easily. But for the phone it is not a problem.
