504C Vermeer baler is a closed throat baler. Your hay must be around 15% moisture. Call 423-207-1349 ask for Mark and I will tell you the adjustments needed to bale hay.

Pour some water on the lower belt or roller or use belt spray the tacky kind. I used to go to the outside windrow and find a little damper grass to get the roll to start.

I have a vermeer 504c and can't seem to get it to bale. It has new belts and bearings and everything seems to be working properly with it, other than it wont bale.
It will pull hay in and start a core but the core will stop turning or just not turn at all then no more hay is able to go into the baler so the front clogs up and becomes a mess to dig out.
I have tightened belts, loosened belts, opened up gap between hay intake rollers and even hit it with a wrench ! No luck !
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

These Vermeer balers can be finicky if the crop is to dry or wet,..with straight shorter grass hay even worse. Alfalfa bales the best
1)Give the belts a bit more slack so the core is bigger before the belts start rolling it along.
2)Wash the rubber feeder roller with pressure washer or garden hose,..dried up crop juices on the rubber make it slippery and it loses hold on the crop.
3)Adjust the feeder rollers so there is an even 1/8" gap along its length( if the rubber on the top feeder roller is nearly gone have it re rubberized or you can forget baling with it).
4)Good aggressive baler teeth help a lot in forcing hay to the rollers.

When you start a bale you got to get hay evenly in across the width,so start at the far right or left and cross the swath to the other side as you go forward.

I been baling with a 605 D for twenty odd years and there's been many a time i got the urge to cut it up for scrap.

This year i cut the knot and bought myself an JD 567, i kept the Vermeer cause i could not even give it away,..it can rot in the fence row for all i care.
