So my new 1050 has 5 hours on it; been running great...so far. Got about 100 feet of grass cut and all of a sudden I have no forward or reverse gear control, and coast to a stop. No surprising noises, nothing but a nice and smooth coast to a stop.
I look under the tractor and there is a spring hanging down that is connected to the drive belt mechanism. I assume it came dislogged and disconnected from the pedal somehow. Right before I take the deck off I see a white plastic fan sitting in a weird angle right beneath the seat so I grab it and it has broken off of its base. It also has some type of JB Weld substance around it. The grey harndened substance is also at what is remaining of the fan at its base. It possibly could have melted but i never smelled it. There could be more damage or problems but I quit looking after I saw the fan since I would not be able to fix it myself.

So, I am going to call my dealership tomorrow and ask him what is going on. I hope this is not a big deal and I am not worried because the warranty will cover it. Thanks in advance for all input and advice!!

Looks like the transaxle drive belt may have jammed the fan as it popped off. One of those fluky setup issues most likely. Sorry to hear of your issues on a brand-new machine! One thing with that 50" deck, try to get the height of the deck and gauge wheels set so it doesn't bounce around on the ground. Things are much less likely to break that way. That's a nice machine BTW.

I have heard of other Cub owners where thier belts have popped off. Hopefully it was just a set up issue. Could the transmission or other components been damaged? Thanks for your input!

No, there can't be any damage to it based on what you describe. Generally it's an assembly or odd faulty part that causes a belt failure like this. No worries. I've seen sticks/twigs take out those fans, but it's rare. You have to be doing some rough brush-hogging for that to happen.
