I'd be curious to know the proportion of real vs artificial trees, and how that's changed over the years. You also need a market, and the time to be around during the weekends from Thanksgiving to Christmas when people are buying trees. Also decent weather... 1 crappy weekend can make people decide to put up an artificial tree this year.
ISTR 30+ years ago seeing every supermarket, abandoned gas station, vacant lot, etc. having a Christmas tree vendor set up each year. A lot fewer and further between these days. Maybe some are going towards cut-your-own, but I'm sure for many folks artificial trees are a lot less hassle.
Heh. We've got wooden half-barrels at the end of the driveway the wife plants flowers in each summer. Just before the ground freezes she'll have me cut a couple small spruces to put in them. She's always crabbing that I get "Charlie Brown" Christmas trees. They look OK to me.Most husband's will say looks great... many wives want the perfect tree...
