I took my mom for a doctors appointment today in Hutchinson Kansas and we stopped at Carey Park for a bit. I decided to get my new android phone out and record these Geese that wonder freely at Carey Park in Hutchinson Kansas.

Sorry about it being sideways for part of the video. Still getting used to recording with the android phone. I also uploaded the video right there at Carey Park. Much faster uploading through 3g instead of my dsl connection.

Thought some here might enjoy this video. :) Don't know why it messed up halfway through but oh well. Must be youtube because it plays fine on my phone.

If I can just get my neck to straighten up now...Guess I was expecting to see thousands of Canadian honkers, but Aflack is just fine too. Hutch is a nice town; been there a time or two. Didn't they film the movie "Picnic" there? Do they still have the drive in theatre?

Those Droids are awesome and make good pics and video. Try holding it horizontal and they come out really nice. Usually if I need to know how to work something on my phone, I have to ask my 11yo niece, old people just can't figure this stuff out.

lol. I strained my neck when I first watched it. Had to take some aspirin. XD

As for the picnic movie. Never saw that movie. But according to wikipedia part of it was filmed there.

Picnic (1955 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The extensive use of Kansas locations highlighted the naturalistic, small-town drama. The Labor Day picnic scenes were shot and edited like a documentary film.[4] Picnic was shot mostly on location in five central Kansas towns:

Halstead's Riverside Park is where all the Labor Day picnic scenes (some of which are semi-documentary) were filmed. The park and many landmarks still existed at the time of the movie's 50th anniversary.
Hutchinson, with its huge grain elevators.
Nickerson is the location of the two adjacent houses where Madge (Kim Novak) and her family live, with Mrs. Potts next door; also where Hal (William Holden) "jumps a freight" to go to Tulsa and where Madge boards a bus in the last scene.
Salina, where Hal jumps off a train in the opening scene and meets Alan (Cliff Robertson) at Alan's father's large house. This also is where Madge kisses Hal by the Saline River and where he escapes from the police by running under a waterfall.
Sterling, where the pre-picnic swim in the lake was filmed.

lol. Will have to remember to keep it horizontal next time. Don't know why I turned the phone the other way. XD

Will have to try my hand at getting a non neck straining video with my android phone next time I'm there. XD

We all needed a little neck exercise anyway, Chad.

I enjoyed the video. I turned the screen on my laptop and had no difficulty in viewing. One of these days, I hope to be able to post pictures and videos here on TBN. Our cell phone does not have the App necessary to do this, and we don't own a digital camera. Hopefully one day? Years ago when I was a LEO, quite a few of the drug dealers in the mountains and hollows would utilize Geese as "watch dogs". They will send a vocal warning at the slightest intrusion upon their claimed territory. Their fecal droppings are quite a nuisance also. Thanks again for posting.

One of my all-time favorites; possibly because it was filmed when I was in high school, possibly because it was about rural farm life and wheat farming which I was part of at the time, and partly because I had been to Hutchinson and life was similar to my home in Oklahoma. One of my classmates lost his father when the painting scaffold he was on collapsed and he fell to his death from one the elevators in Hutchinson.

I know the movie is a bit before your time, and you would probably find it a bit overly dramatic, but you might want to watch it when it comes back on TV. It's a snippet of life in a small town in the 50's, more focused on adults, but nostalgic none the less.

Years ago I read that SAC, Strategic Air Command, had used geese as guard critters around missile silos. I don't know if it was true or not, but from watching geese around here, I can believe it.

Later,
