I think any time you buy a piece of equipment 20-25 years
old you are taking a risk.
If you do your home work and find out as much about the
tractor as you can it will help when you are checking them
out. This forum is an excellent tool for that.
Living in Wisconsin I have never seen one of these VN
rebuilds as no one around here sells them.
I bought my 1500D from a small local dealer and have been
very happy with it. No matter what you buy it may need a little work, being mechanicly inclined will help.
Just my 2 cents worth,
CHRIS.....

When I found my YM240 in the newspaper I had never heard of this model. I saw it at noon, and had to decide before dinner when other buyers were scheduled to appear.

I spent a frantic afternoon here on TBN reading everything I could find on YM1700/YM2000 (same tractor, Japanese market version) then went and looked it over again. Now I knew what to look for so this was less of a gamble than before.

I wrote the seller a check as the next buyer was enroute calling for directions. When I picked it up he said he got calls from 3 more cash buyers. I feel lucky I found it, in nearly a year I haven't seen anything like it.

Getting it back into top working condition was simple. I described this recently in this post.

I owe a lot to the TBN Yanmar owners whose good advice was posted here when I needed it to make my hasty decision. My research gave me a hunch this was a great deal, and it turned out it was.

If your intuition is screaming 'beware' I would listen to that, too.

Well folks I went and looked at it and I must say it seemed nice. It started right up when cold, loader worked, pto worked and I put it through all the gears. My tookus fit the seat just fine. I talked to the seller,a nice enough chap and honest. He told me he sells for the outfit in Sacramento california posted about. The fan belts weren't painted, but the fuel lines and radiator hoses were. Needless to say I still don't have a tractor. Thanks
