1968 Wheelhorse, Charger 10,1-7931
Hello all, I'm a recent member to this forum.
Hoping there might be some folks who can provide some advice/suggestions.
I have a 1968 Wheelhorse 10HP, Charger 10, 1-7931, tractor. The power is a Tecumseh, HH100-115095B engine.
I'm from Pa. & inherited this quite a few years ago & mainly use it for winter & snow removal.
Tried to start her up for this up coming season & it simply would not turn over, even with a new battery. A friend/mechanic took a look & it's his opinion the "stator & coil assembly" ohm output is in excess of 400 & greater then it should be.
My delimma is I checked out most of the small engine repair wes sites. None of this particular HH100 engins in their data base. Different HH100 seies though do show this on their schematic as #254. Scrolling thru thier parts list there is no corresponding part number.
I've viewed similar "stator & coit Assy" on ebay but am really not anxious to purchase at $135 by picture alone.
Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple of links that may help you out. They helped me out a few years back looking for parts for a couple of mine. You may have to join another forum, but a small price to pay for leading you in the right direction.
Hope this helps..!!

If it has points and condenser, start there. If you pull the plug out and use a spark tester and it has spark
then the coil is good. Its rare for a coil to go bad, believe it or not.
Now you say it wont "turn over" so does it crank over and not start or not crank over at all?
If the engines cranks over, pull the plug but dont use a plug to check for spark. Spark tester or You can put a
screw driver in the wire and hold it about a 1/4 inch from the motor for ground and should see and even hear the spark.
If it has spark, its probably a fuel problem. Remove the air filter and spray some carb cleaner into the carb.
If it starts, then ts fuel or carb problem.

Thanks all for the replies.
DJ54: I accessed your recommended sites & await their reply.
Mitch: Thanks for the offer & I'll keep it as an option. Want to see if I can track down the replacement part 1st.
sox3: sounds like you're pretty well versed in small engines. Engine has no points. In my lamen terms & limited understanding of what I've read to date, there are 2 trigger pinson the flywheel. The starter does engage the flywheel & there is compression. So the engine cranks but doesn't turn over/start & run.
Again, appreciate the assists in efforts to help me out.

That unit has an early attempt at electronic ignition. Havent been any parts for them in quite a while
l am experienced in small engine repair engines as I have
owned and operated a Lawn equipment repair business for 25 years.
If the coil is split or burnt it may have had 12 volts put to it
which will burn it up. The trigger assembly under the flywheel usually went bad. If it needs replaced
its usually cheaper to fins a like tractor that runs and buy it then swap out the parts you need.
Hope this helps.

Wanted to make a quick reply & hope each of the responders to my original inquiries/requests receive this. Thank you! Your efforts to assist me in resolving my issue is greatly appreciated.
By pure chance, my friend/mechanic recently hooked up with a guy who works on vintage wheelhorse tractors locally. Thru their collaborations I believe they have the parts required & some options for minor modifications of similar parts that should work & get the ole wheelhorse ready for the 1st snow.
Thanks again to each of you for your feedback.
