Hello all! I am working on a movie in Georgia that involves a scene with a tractor battery charger in the late 60's. This battery charger could be anywhere from the mid 50's to early 70's but I have no idea what to look for or where to look. If anyone has photos, advice, ideas on where to look or one to sell for a reasonable price (it doesn't have to work), I would be very interested to hear! Thank you very much.

The GA Dept of Agriculture used to publish a weekly Market Bulletin. You might look in that, or contact a seller of an older tractor to see if maybe they have one from that era.

Good luck

I don't know the difference between a car battery charger and a tractor battery charger, but this fine example of electronic equipment can be yours for shipping charges alone.

It is from the early 70s at a minimum, and has been stored on a boat in a salt water environment for 10 years or so, which gives it a fine patina of rust. The Sears brand will give an added air of authenticity...

PM me if your are interested.

Curly:

That Sears charger looks like mine, except for the rust. I still use mine on occassion.

I would imagine Ebay would have them on occasion...

I'd like to help, but I'm still using my 1952 Baldor and my 1969 Amp King.

Chargers older then 1957 are almost exclusively 6 volt... with a few specialty chargers having both 6 and 8 volts.

Chargers from the 60's and 70's will generally have both 6 and 12 volt...

I have never seen an 8 volt battery charger. What would that be used for?

I memory serves... I believe they were first used on circa 1949 Cadillac and Olds V8's

I have also seen a few in 53 NAA Golden Jubilee Ford Tractors... don't know if it was OEM or not.

After WWII, the old 6 volt electrical systems were not powerful enough for the High Compression Rocket 88 Olds V8's. It was only for a year or two and then these cars went to 12 volt.

Ford was one of the last American holdouts... Mom's 56 Ford was 6V and my 57 is 12v...

Interstate Battery still sells them and I used to sell several a week to guys with overhead valve conversions on Model A Fords...

Look at some old headlight bulbs and you will see they are rated 6 - 8 volt.

Since the movie is set in the 60's it wouldn't look right if the battery charger looks 30 years old.

It should have been new, in 1960 something.

NAA was OEm 6v from the factory.

in fact, ford tractors remained 6v positive ground and gas untill about 58 when the diesels came out.. and they were 12v.. etc.

Naa was late 52 thru 54.

No fords were 8v, oem..

1955 Fords were 6 volt. 1956 Fords were 12 volt. You can still get 8 volt batteries at Sam's or many other places that sell batteries as they are used in many golf carts. Golf carts are usually 36 volts with 6 six volt batteries or 48 volts with 6 eight volt batteries. I have seen people replace one of their 6 volt batteries in a 36 volt cart with an 8 volt battery to "soup it up".
