We've got 15 wild (woods/bushes/thorns/moderately hilly) acres. In the summer, it is a challenge even to get through the property at all.

We are ready to clear the areas we have selected for a driveway, homesite with large yard down to the creek, and paths to get around the entire place. I don't plan to maintain the entire acreage, but we will keep up what we clear. I will also dam the creek at some point to make a small lake.

I plan to brush hog most of this area that I want cleared, but I will also have to fell trees (chainsaw) and burn some brush and trees that I can't get over.

I won't be able to buy a new machine, but I do want something serviceable and durable to keep around the place.

I would love to know what models or sizes you recommend and what accessories I should consider necessary.

What part of the country are you in? Got any pix of your land? You know how hilly hilly is?

You might be happier depending on the depth of the brush and thickness of the trees to hire a dozer, then buy a tractor to maintain.

I'll throw this out there for ya to think about. There seems to be a lot of good used name brand(green orange blue) machines in the 30 to 40 hp. 4wd and a loader would be a must. but for better answers wher are you at, snow or costal.
Most important is a good local dealer for service.

I am in northeast Texas. Snow is not a problem where we are.

Thanks for the help!

I am considering a JD 3520 with cab. What is the road speed of this vehicle?

The 3520 would be a nice size machine for your land. Just remeber its not a bulldozer or ATV just some where in between.
As far as road speed most tractors are 13-20mph depending on the tractor.

for that size land.. and you wanting used.. I'd say 70hp and down.

if there is real landclearning to do past 'chainsaw and small log dragging'.. I'd hire it done.. then get a tractor for maintenance.

A ford inthe 8xx model range.. or the 3xxx/4xxx range is plenty of hp to pull a mower.. can even fit a loader.. though the older fords are not the best laoder machines.. they do work.

post back more details.

That is why you drive them down the middle of the road. :)

Buzzyg, the question on road speed; are you expecting to drive it far often? If so tire wear can become a real issue.
