They are built on a different chassis / casting. The grands are just a bit heavier built.

Anyone have any idea where the extra 300 pounds lies between a 4400 and a 4240? Put a chubby guy in the seat, and you've evened up the score!

Are you a no thrills type of person who would be happy with a basic work truck or are you the type who likes and uses the extra features of the deluxe model truck? For me it was simple. I plan on keeping my tractor for at least 20 years so a few extra bucks in the long run mean little. But the extra capabilities are nice as well.

Since getting some time on the tractor I doubt I could go without the HST+. It's just makes using the tractor so much simpler. Sure none of the HST+ features are needed or couldn't be done without it but the same could be said about HST or even shuttle shift. A gear tractor will work but at the end of the day what means more to you, saving a few bucks or ease of use.

For me the H-DS feature alone justifies the extra money. I use it almost every time. Being able to downshift without stopping or even lifting off the pedal is great.
