I'd also leave fresh fruit for something which kept the pests out of my garden. I wonder if it would keep the neighbor's cat from using it as a litterbox. :(

We have two that live under the steps, it is a common belief that where you find blue tongues you won't find snakes, I can assure that this not true as we had both at the last place.
As you can see colouring varies depending upon terrain.
Down at the creek there are big water monitors, I keep away from them with their huge sharp claws.

I almost ran over this 4' Timber Rattler on a bike path this summer:

It wouldn't have gone well for either of us.

Mr. BDHSFZ6, did you find that on the Rail Trail around Wellsboro?

No. I've seen many rattlers on the Pine Creek trail but that pic was taken on the Lehigh Gorge Trail, about 40 miles east of Wellsboro.

I've been riding the Pine Creek Rail Trail for many years. It starts in Wellsboro Junction and runs south for 62 miles all the way to Jersey Shore. I usually stay in Wellsboro or Mansfield and take 2 days to do the whole trail. You see snakes there mostly in the spring and fall.
