But not for frankmako's 1601.Mickey_Fx said:Seem to recall being mentioned there is an older Datsun reg that does work.
Here's what I know. Maybe someone can study this and expand it to serve for the later tractors:
Some of the Yanmars that were first designed in the early 70's used the same Hitachi alternator and regulator that Datsun (Nissan) put on the 70-73 Datsun 510. (without A/C).
YM2000 and YM240 (its US version twin) used this Hitachi gear. I assume YM1700 and YM195, likewise. I don't know what else this alt/reg fits!!!! Emphasis here, because I sent an owner of a similar tractor YM2500???) off on a wild goose chase when we both assumed this gear would fit his tractor. It didn't work.
The Hitachi/Datsun stuff is cheap, I think $29 + $19 for the alt/reg when I checked on it in 2004. (AutoZone, rebuilt alt and new potted reg.)
Note that was Datsun without A/C, a 35 amp alternator. It is a perfect fit, bolts right in and matches the Yanmar regulator. Datsun WITH A/C was the same regulator and a 50 amp alternator that fits but is fatter, so it might need a longer belt or adjustment strap. (Or a larger mount beneath the alternator. Maybe salvaged off a Datsun!) Either is a better choice than the original 15 amp alternator that Yanmar specified.
Please read this again before applying this Hitachi/Datsun stuff to anything but YM2000 and its variations. I have no idea if it works for any other models! This is just a starting point for research. Maybe later Hitachi applications match the later Yanmars. If anyone learns more, please start a new thread so the info will be easy to find in the future.
