Pictures VOODOO Vanashing Insulation Rats with pictures hopefully

For those that have followed my post on starter trouble, I am now posting some pictures as to why I had to initally jump starter off at solenoid. As I stated before, I came behind someone else who put a new solenoid on tractor as it would not crank. After he was out of the picture, I got called in. I could not get it to start either from the panel, so jumped it off at solenoid and knew right away starter was still engauged to flywheel. Hurt my arm and had to wait to investigate further as to no power from switch and why starter was not disengauging.

When I pulled the instrument panel off the console, I got the surprise of my life, there was a lot more in console than I thought, a rat nest. I later had to pull the fuse panel assembly and remove it to pull the wiring harness out the side of the tractor. Below are my findings.

If someone will explain to me how to put the pictures up so they will show up and not have to be clicked on one at a time, I thank you. I did it before, but cannot get it to work this time. Thumb nails, click to enlarge.

generally to post pictures you have to have them posted somewhere like Photobucket, then you insert the link to the pic, if using photobucket on the right of the page when looking at the photo there are HTML links all set up for you. By clicking in the box it automatically copies the link then flip to TBN and post it.

Yesterday I opened the electrical service panel to my barn. The 440Volt supplys the barn and from there to a panel at the pump house then to another panel at the house. The service panel at the barn is on the outside wall and all wire runs come from a knockouts on the backside. Mice had been in the service panel and left a mess but did not chew on anything. I consider myself lucky. When I get through running the new connections for a run in shed the entrance holes will be sealed.

Well, it gets worse. After chasing the rats/mice from the tractor 4 months ago, which is still under repair, they decided to move to my covered sailboat. Thank goodness the hatches were closed and just a small space for air to get into cabin. They had quite a party, as like the tractor leaving droppings all over everything. Worse part is they liked one spot more than others, that ate part way through the gelcoat. We are talking topside people. They decided to use one spot to "pay the water bill" also and the gelcoat is a yellowish brown in that area. Scrubbed like heck, not much luck, buffer next. It is now time for war games, despite what the boss says. The poison goes out in conspicious places.

Best thing I've found for keeping them away is moth balls.

I have tried everything and nothing worked except my free female barn cat. I spent $75 to get her shots and fixed. She eats maybe 3 bags of food per year but 80% of her diet is critters. Mice to rabbits she gets them all.

Right, just hope the coyotes don't get her.

I like the glue traps as you don't end up with a dead stinking rat behind or under something that you cant determine the location of the smell. I recently found some little spring loaded bait traps that the rat crawls thru a hole and into the trap looking for the peanut butter and the trap snaps shut crushing him. Worked good on the little mouse that was hibernating in my Kubota RTV. He would jump off and run back toward the garage each time I backed out. One day with the Ortho Home Defense Max trap and he was a goner.
Edit: just checked them again and had another one. They come 2 to the box and seem to work well and easy to set.
Sounds like the OP needs a cat, traps and poison to control the run away population. Maybe the 5 gallon Bucket of Death is in order.
