wall material

i'm building a walk in cooler. i'm looking for suggestions for what to use for interior walls. they should be moisture resistant, cheap, washable, and lightweight (because i'm an old guy).
the material is to be fastened to studs (2x4's) 24" oc. the entire cooler is 6x8, so we're not talking much wall space. the ceiling will have the same covering as the walls.
i looked at frp and tile board. they are not suitable for installation on studs. the current choice is 1/4" sanded plywood nailed or screwed on and then painted.
any ideas?

How about using sheets of foil faced rigid insulation if not going to abuse it. Its about the cheapest way out I can think of. You could foil tape the seams too. As it is 1/4 inch on 2 ft centers isnt very strong anyway. IMO most products like polymax or frp arent what I call cheap @ $35 to $60 panel. You can buy an FRP with a pre-attached backer board.

This doesnt affect want to do you but its just as an FYI... at the apple orchard we had completly renovate everything, we were required by the state to meet the new GAP standards (Good Agricultural Practice). One of the things we couldnt have any more was painted wood walls. All our old coolers were. So was the packing room. The new cooler I just built is 1/2 ply over 16 centers and then we did 2 inches of spray foam insuation over walls and ceiling... on all of them! That met their inspection. And did FRP over 1/2 ply for the processing area with washable aztec trim boards and plastic mouldings. Lot of bucks!

If it is going to be refrigerated then it probably need to be waterproof -- maybe sealed metal corrugated roofing over studs/insulation and plywood.. If just a "cool room" then probably sealed and painted plywood.

FRP,fiberglass reinforced panel,used in commercial kitchens would work well.

FRP is available pre-bonded to a 1/4" plywood backer, not at the big boxes here but the old fashioned lumber yards have it @ $33. Much better than any paint for sanitary purposes.

thanks ray. it would be the material of choice. i will try to find a local lumber yard. they all seem to have closed down over the past decade.
