I purchased new a wallenstein gx900 bh w/18" bucket a year ago .I've 29 hrs on bh which is subframe mtd remote hyd driven on a 4340 montanna with 194 hrs.Two weeks ago I was diggin a hole in my field and the bucket crunched and then tore partially apart :confused: I limped it back to my fab shop to check it out and was stunned at what I discovered. The bucket where it attaches is a hollow box type 1/8"structure with no internal struts/supports:confused:I considered fixing/ fabbing a stonger set up but descided this should be covered under warranty?(I'll try and post pic's )so then I discustedly bent it back to somwhat its original shape and called my dealer ...
I was not beaten it at all and was operating at 1000-1200 rpm!

Has anyone else Ripped the back off a wallenstein bucket?

I'm lookin to buy a back up 12" bkt would other manufactureres buckets retrofit?
Shouldnt the hyd. "stall" before destruction?
any words of wisdom?

thanks
respectfully

Sorry to hear about the bucket damage. Other than that how is the backhoe on your Monanta. I also have a montana 4340 with a cab and I am going to start looking for a backhoe for it. How is the wallenstein and what are the specs on it. I see now they dont sell that model anymore but now have 20's models. I like the new curved design as it will match the loader.

The newer curved loaders are nice It would seem to make the bucket & the pivot ground clearance greater... which are alittle weak on mine. Some very nice points are the loader sub frame and the bh sub frame are at the same elevation and run parallel . Close enough to marry them together to form one frame ( strong )!(I'm building a skid plate to mount here) BH is very easy off & on 15 min. Bottom hooks ,top rotates towards tractor sub frame & pins... Top pins were alittle close to tires so I had to widen rear tire stance 4 ". The subframe wasnt' too hard to install ... every thing lined up! When I compared specs. to others it had little more force and weighed a little more. I paid 7250.- which was everything...

Thanks for the info. Do you have any pictures of your unit? I contacted wallenstein and tehy said that the new 920 serises will fit on my tractor but they have to customize the subframe to extend back father as the regular one will not work as the seat will seat to close to the cab.

The* 18" bh bucket pic's long over do ... but I finally figured out how to post pics' . The wallenstein welds tore on the side/top as shown in 1 st pic . seems as to not have the adequate penetration to hold. 2nd pic . the 1/8" steel backof the bucket* just crushed/ curled back the connection pins .LIKE I SAID BEFORE THIS ONLY HAD @( HRS ON IT !* And now I found somthing else made of 1/8" material ...the out rigger that broke in half last week ... wohowo I'm having so much fun welding this "new" back hoe back together:mad:* Jd*** the last pic is of the whole machine ... IMHO if they were to "Extend"the sub frame longer* you would have a very long rig and not easily manuverable in "tighter"* places** K9

Did you contact wallenstein about possibly warrenty replacement or even reimbersment of the cost to weld it? I am suprised that the metal is so thin and some of the welds do not look that great anyway. The outrigger broke also? Wow you are making me think of not going with the brand backhoe.
I don't think they have to extend the frame to much longer becuase of the cab. I am not worried about the extra length, can't be much worse than my bush hog hang back there.

Jd** I took the bent/crushed bucket to the dealer I bought BH from back in mid feb 09. He said he would call his dealer( Cummings and Bricker) to see what they would do?!? Two weeks went by and he* then told me to send pics' to Nathan cummings @ cummings & bricker . so I sent some pics'and* a detailed description of the deficient welds ...A week went by and did'nt hear anything so I called Nathan( at this point I really needed a bucket bad) . Nathan said they should warranty it but did not know for sure and would call me one way or the other and let me know.I needed a bucket... so I bought a 12" from him at that time .. (3-6- 09)* well nathan choose not to call me back... at all... so I called wallenstein and talked to tim(4-6-09) "the warranty guy "and this is were the story gets good ...** Tim procedes to explain to me* that this is out of the warranty "year" .It seems that the "Year" starts when you pay for it not when you take possesion of it(5 weeks), or not when you put it in service( they initially shipped me the wrong bolts for the sub frame and this took 6 more weeks to rectify) so really(11weeks), in my case I only had a warranty for 9 months form the time I put it in service. Oh did I mention that this was my xmas present to my self... its winter out..So TIM goes on to say tho that they will cover it under warranty after all it should 'nt* have broken like this (bless his heart)and that we will do a bucket swap at the dealer I purchased the BH at . But he then said he would e-mail on tues 4-7-09 with further info?? Well tim from the waranty dept at Wallenstein it is now thursday please e-mail me ??*** Ya know youd think that a manufacturer would be** interested in as to what/how a weld like this fails ??? I don't think they care.. sad ..*** *here are a few pics of the snapped out rigger off the same Wallenstein GX900 BH .The tube thickness is 1/8"***
