I've been looking for a few months for a used BX62 to show up, so far, haven't seen one. Recently, a new BX60 popped up which is perhaps 750-1000 less than a new BX62. It seems to me that the difference between a BX60 and a BX62 is that the BX 62 has one more knife (4 vs 3). My tractor is a bit underpowered for the BX62 (its a 2007 3520 with around 30 PTO hp) but should operate it ok. Currently almost all material will be pine....some of it dried.

I've passed so far on the BX60 because I thought that 4 knives would be more helpful to my somewhat underpowered tractor vs 3. Still no BX62 available other than brand new so thought I'd see how big of a deal the difference is from the perspective who know vs just my guess. I'm almost to the point when I need to get something.

Thanks for any info.

I was just at the MSU Ag Expo on Thursday and spent some time talking with the rep from Wallenstein. He said that the BX62 series has been redesigned to aid in reducing plugging when chipping leafy material. Like you stated, there are now 4 blades. He said there is also now a 'branch breaker' to aid in breaking up small branches that normally would not get chipped properly and lead to plugging. Finally, they added several air slots to aid in 'fluffing' the material to reduce the chance of plugging. Oh course, he's a salesman, so you need to take some of what he said with a grain of salt, but they were doing demos and I never saw the BX62 plug up once.

I bought the BX42 last year, with the twig breaker. You can still clog it up if you stuff armloads of small brush into it. I figure it's just not what they're made for.. works like a champ on branches tho. :thumbsup:

Thanks for the responsed guys. Anybody else got any thoughts on a BX60 vs a BX62? Anybody ever use both?

Greetings;

I'm not sure what size of material you are hoping to put through your machine but the BX62 might be a bit of a challenge for a 30 HP tractor. Wallenstein's site shows the HP range for the 62 as being 30-100 HP. I have a BX 42 that I use on a Ford NAA which I think is in the mid 20's for PTO HP. It has 4 knives and the slotted body but I still manage to plug it once and a while. Like most of the male species I resisted reading the manual and when I finally did I realized that the distance between the knifes and the anvil was too great and then along with less than sharp blades was contributing to the plugging. I found that fixing these two issues helped quite a bit but stuffing in green cedar will still plug it. Also does a better job with less grunt on green wood. These machines are really best at chipping, not shredding. All in all though, a well built machine. Good luck with your search.
