NH TC 55 DA
Wondering what I'm doing wrong engaging PTO with BX62 as I keep sheering pins. NH TC 55 DA EHSS -is there a way to feather in PTO with the clutch ? I
have the tractor a lowest idle/throttle, yet many times the first move of the
BX62 drum seems to sheer the pin. If I clean the drum/wheel( tractor off)
it seems better. After chipping pieces get caught and with no speed and the
weight in( just start mode )the pin sheers. What am I doing wrong or can BX62 owners help me please. Thanks

Dealer says raise the chipper up about 6 inches so that the angle from PTO
and chipper becomes level. I'll try that.

I don't have one, but I know the feeling.
What grade shear bolts are you using?
If you have grade 2 (no markings on bolt head) then try grade 5.
But I would check with the mfg. first before changing grade of bolt.

I there an owner manual that states what grade bolt?

Mine never does that.
did you grease it (the chipper)?
Maybe it's got too much initial drag on it.
it should not be breaking.

I agree that it shouldn't be doing that. I have the wallenstein 42 behind my TC30 and I haven't broke one yet. I try to start it at a low rpm, but sometimes I forget and start it at the 540 pto speed ( which is somewhere around 2500 rpm on the motor ). I would check what Lonecowboy suggested, as well as Charlies suggestion on the grade of bolts. I'll bet if it free wheels nicely by hand, that your dealer is probably correct with the angle of the pto shaft. I know on my snow blower, that if I have it pulled up in the air too far to keep it out of the snow while turning or whatever, it will break the shear pins. I wish you luck with it, and let us know what did the trick. Oh, by the way, On my machine, I push in the clutch and let it out slow after I engage the rear pto. I am not sure if it's good for the clutch ( and that's why I try to drop the rpm's way down around 1200-1500rpm ) but it does start whatever implement more gently, by slipping the clutch.

Thanks for the input. Lonecowboy the dealer also mentioned throwing cooking
oil through the drum/knives just before you close it down. How do you keep
interior well oiled. Also, I thought about feathering the clutch but the TC 55 DA EHSS doesn't allow that. I need to work the PTO real slowly and maybe with better angle on shaft the shear pin, well oiled drum we'll be in business.

millpond, Did you leave it out in the rain, or does it sit around alot? The reason that I ask is, that your dealer suggesting the oiling of the drum. It doesn't sound like a little oil on the drum will stop your problem, unless it has kinda rusted, and making it turn hard. I have never done this with my wallenstein 42 and it turns by hand pretty easy. I do cover the infeed hopper, and the exhaust chute, that the chips fly out of though, so rain doesn't get in either one. I hope you figure it out.

Daryled I did speak with manufacture and they said on BX62 you can go up to
8 grade shear pin which should help some, but yes it has been outside uncovered and I bet your right the rain over the last three weeks as taken
its toll. I will be oiling, changing the shear grade up some, and also raise the unit during initial starting rotation and report back in a few weeks. By the way
I think this chipper is awesome. It will eat 6 inch Hemlock/Spruce without a
worry. Bill:)

Mine just sits outside
In 3 feet of snow last year
(although normally it's pretty dry here, we don't have much humidity)

I've never seen anyone cover theirs, I see lots sitting outside (big self contained ones too)
