We have recently purchased a BX-42 Do you owners use a Ledger setting Gauge to set your stationary blade or just eye-ball it?

I've just eyeballed mine but I do have a very experienced eyeball for measuring. Not too much trouble to make an accurate enough gauge if you don't trust your eye though. I love my chipper, but it's not a precision instrument...

Feeler gauges, in combination to the correct total thickness per owner's manual.
For my BX-62, I don't think I could've seen well enough to even try "eyeball" but that might be different for the 42

Just paid $28 for the proper tool from Wallenstein "Ledger Setting Gauge" evidently it is a feeler on a stick?

I have a sheet of plastic that is the right thickness that I use as a feeler gauge

I went to Home Depot and purchased a small sheet of 22 ga sheet metal
made a gauge with a little bend in it

I haven't changed the setting from the factory. I was looking at the chips again today as I was doing some clean up thinking they might be a little big. It doesn't seem like it's to much trouble to change/set the stationary blade.
